If so, you may want to have what I like to call “An Unsubscribe Party”. An “Unsubscribe Party” is when you go through your inbox and unsubscribe to emails that are being delivered from sites you’ve once visited and provided with your email. This is particularly relevant now as you are searching for and purchasing Christmas presents online. The sites that you purchase from will all be asking for your email address in order to complete your purchase. And then… THEY WILL HAUNT YOU FOR LIFE !! :) At the bottom of most emails, there is an “Unsubscribe” link. When clicked, this link takes you to their website and you are allowed to opt out of their email(s). Doing this can DRASTICALLY reduce the number of emails you get per hour or per day. A WORD OF WARNING: ONLY click the “Unsubscribe” link when the email comes from a company that you’ve provided with your email address. If you don’t know who the email is from, DON’T click “Unsubscribe”. Most spammers have no idea if the email address they are spamming is legitimate or even active. They just send spam to everyone. When you open one of the emails THEY send you and you click on the “Unsubscribe” button it, tells them that this email address is alive and well and to send more spam to that address. UGH!!! Now, go make yourself a cup of coffee and Have Yourself a Merry Little Unsubscribe Party. It will start your New Year off right! Enjoy! I once bought a TMNT mug off the site LTD commodities .. great site mug arrived quick but I can't unsubscribe from their daily newsletter no matter what I do. I even called them. Finally, I just blacklisted the email address on Gmail to send it straight to the trash. I normally give out my spam email address, not sure what I was thinking for that site. Other than that, all my spam and crap goes to my Yahoo address. So it is easy to delete them. Yahoo account is what I use to sign and register on sites. This is what spammers do, and it just causes even more spam. I just setup email filters in my main account, which is super effective. I also use a secondary email address that is full of spam. +Warwagon MVC Posted December 7, 2017 Author MVC Share Posted December 7, 2017 I wrote this for my Facebook business page because people don't use an address just for spam, and I swear to god, they have given their email out to so many sites that every time you hit the send and receive button 5 more emails come. Its scary how easy it is, ive even seen security advisories being sent out to clients using CC.....WTF send to yourself and use BCC thats what its there for! Usually an extraction from the metadata sent back to the sender, usually stops cc usage it in its tracks. easiest way to deal with it, use a disposable email addy for crap like that, then bin it forever and start afresh every January tadaaa why waste your time unsubbing from anything, creating positive hits on the account by clicking unsubscribe, even for legit companies. quicker and less pain to start afresh on a new burn address. I never click unsubscribe, even on legit mail, its a positive hit on the address (first rule of spam mailing) legit or not, unsub listings are kept by every company. Boom all it takes is for said company to be compromised and BINGO! I also never ever ever use my ISP assigned mailboxes for anything except banking, long term shopping (amazon for example) & ISP comms thats it. exotoxic Posted December 13, 2017 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Sometimes emails that don't contain an unsubscribe link at the bottom have it in the header/meta data, which, if you use gmail in a web browser it will put an unsubscribe link at the top next to the sender address. Let's say you have the Domain: Bob.com When you use the Bank of America website, for example, you give the email address: BankOfAmerica@bob.com. Then, you can create a folder in your email client specifically for emails sent to that address and filter them. If you start getting Spam emails to that address, you can add a second filter which checks the sender (to make sure it's really from the Bank of America address you're used to seeing). Anything else gets sent to Trash. If you're signing up for something short-term and need a throwaway address, just give them Spam@bob.com and have a filter to send everything using that address directly to Trash. +Warwagon 1 Share Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Be wary of what you subscribe to/put your info into.
