SMB issue with windows 10 / Synology diskstation

Recommended Posts

I have a Synology DS1517+ that I am having SMB issues with.

I can go to \\ds1517\ and get a public list of folders, map one as a network drive using credentials (say drive z:) and it works fine

restart the system, open that same network drive that hasn't reauthentiated yet but is still mappeed.. I get the login screen..

"Enter your credentials to connect to: ds1517"

I do that and error says it can not talk to ds1517, yet it just did to get to the credential point?

If I manually go to the IP of the system \\192.168.1.35\ instead of the host name it works fine... something is up with the host name resolution and shared folders together... in the event log I even have successful log in events when I enter my user / pass for the \\ds1517\ share when it told me it couldn't talk to the server (apparently it did, it authenticated?)

It's set up to use SMB2 and SMB3 on the synology box, and when this issue happens I can go to the diskstation interface perfectly fine via http://ds1517/

I can also connect to other services at that same host name... it's just windows file shares

any ideas or what to look at to troubleshoot?
