Microsoft's GDPR Compliance Manager hits general availability

Microsoft announced Compliance Manager back in November, as a way to make sure that organizations are ready for the data protection regulations coming from the European Union (EU). The company said that just 50% of EU organizations have documented their sensitive data, 77% plan to spend over a million dollars on compliance, and 92% consider compliance a top data protection priority.

Today, the firm announced that Compliance Manager is generally available - along with Compliance Score and Azure Information Protection scanner - as part of Microsoft 365.

Compliance Manager works across Microsoft Cloud services, and helps businesses to comply with GDPR, or any number of compliance obligations. Compliance Score offers an easy way to see how well you're doing in your efforts.

There are also Azure Information Protection improvements that are available today. Information Protection scanner will regularly scan your servers to "automatically discover, classify, label, and protect documents".

Microsoft also announced some new features that are in preview now. Mac users will now be able to label and protect sensitive Office documents without any plug-ins, and there's a consistent labeling feature, so your sensitive files will have the same files across Office 365 and Azure Information Protection.

The company says that it can identify more than 80 out-of-the-box sensitive information types. Compliance Tool, Compliance Score, and Azure Information Protection scanner are all available for Microsoft 365 customers now.
