Sir Topham Hatt
Hi So I have a memory stick that is between 16GB and 32GB. When I connect them to a Windows 10 PC through an extension cable, it'll start copying files but then give up, disconnect itself and say the drive isn't connected anymore. Connecting directly into the motherboard doesn't do this. Is there anything I can do so I can use the extension cable?
goretsky Supervisor Posted March 25, 2018 Supervisor Share Posted March 25, 2018 Hello, You could try using a different, shorter USB extension cable, but as I recall, USB extension cables are not part of the actual specification (or at least the original spec), so there may be solution. Throw that cable in the garbage is step 1 unless it was a USB 3 port to a USB 3 drive and you used a USB 2 cable.
Sir Topham Hatt
Hmm. I don't know what the port is but the drive is USB 3. I guess the port is USB 3 as the file swapped really quick. The cable might be a 2 or 1. Would that matter then? I thought it would just slow to the transfer down?

USB 3 delivers vastly more power to a peripheral than USB 2 so many USB 3 devices simply assume that power is there. Just get the right cable. Xahid
I think, your Cable's port or USB port are "loosen", you need to make sure they attached tightly.
