Today, Amazon has announced that it is taking convenience to a whole new level. The shopping giant has announced that its Amazon Key service now allows you to link compatible cars to the service so deliveries can be brought to your vehicle wherever it may be – so long as it’s somewhere publicly accessible.
Discussing the development, Peter Larsen, VP of Delivery Technology at Amazon said:
“Since launching Amazon Key last November, we’ve safely delivered everything from cameras to collectable coins inside the home. Customers have also told us they love features like keyless guest access and being able to monitor their front door from anywhere with the Amazon Key App. In-car delivery gives customers that same peace of mind and allows them to take the experience with them. And, with no additional hardware or devices required, customers can start ordering in-car delivery today.”
The new service is available for all Prime members in 37 cities and surrounding areas across the U.S., and is available on millions of items sold on Amazon. It doesn’t matter whether you pick Same Day, Two-Day or Standard Shipping; all items will be able to be dropped off to your car. As for the vehicles which are compatible, you’ll need a 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac with an active OnStar account. Volvo vehicles from 2015 with an active Volvo On Call account may also be compatible.
Amazon has employed multiple levels of verification to ensure security with regard to in-car deliveries. The firm says it ensures the correct delivery driver is at the correct location with the correct parcel before the vehicle is unlocked. At this point, customers will be notified about the delivery and then the vehicle is relocked. Amazon’s drivers do not receive special codes or keys to gain further access to the vehicles. Additionally, Amazon in-car deliveries are backed up by Amazon’s Happiness Guarantee to provide further peace of mind .
