Intel teases its first (modern) discrete graphics card, slated for 2020 release

There have been murmurs - from sources both official and unofficial - of an imminent re-entry into the discrete graphics card market by Intel. This would potentially add a major third player into a market that's effectively duopoly between Nvidia and AMD's graphics cards. Two months ago, Intel all but confirmed its foray into this field, touting a possible 2020 release date, and today, the company has released its first teaser for it.

Dramatic music and flashy graphics notwithstanding, it looks like Intel is finally done with fabricating only integrated GPUs, after its two-decade hiatus since its failed i740 card in 1998.

Based on the video, the card appears to be a single-slot one with a PCIe connector with a metal-fin blower fan as a cooling solution. As for speculating on its other specs, Intel has set 2019 as its debut year for its Ice Lake line of processors, which will be based on a 10nm process. Consequently, one can expect the company's discrete GPU offering to utilize the same.

Not much else is known about the card as of now, but more details are sure to emerge the closer we get to the release date, so stay tuned!
