Twitter will soon let you easily switch back to a chronological timeline

In 2016, Twitter revamped how its platform works by shifting to an algorithm-based order of tweets as the default timeline. Since then, tweets are displayed according to what the system thinks a user likes to see. However, Twitter may be planning to add a new capability to more easily switch between the chronological and algorithmic order soon.

If you're not a super fan of Twitter's current algorithmic timeline, you'll be pleased to learn that the micro-blogging site announced that it will test an accessible way designed to let you switch back to the chronological arrangement more easily in the next few weeks. The company's support team said via its official Twitter account:

In the meantime, Twitter has updated the “Show the best Tweets first” setting. Turning off that option allows you to see tweets from people you follow in reverse chronological order. Prior to that update, the timeline would also show tweets you've missed and recommended tweets from accounts you don’t follow.

The social networking site added that its goal is to balance the way it shows you the tweets you'd most likely want to see and the most recent ones in the timeline, though Twitter admits it does not always succeed in that effort. It remains to be seen, however, how this decision will help the company bolster user engagement.
