Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and the Thronebreaker RPG to release in October

While The Witcher franchise developer's upcoming RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, is the one hogging the spotlight these days, CD Projekt RED's collectible card game venture and its single-player campaign are nearing closer to their release.

Announced today, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will finally roll out of its beta tag next month on PC with the highly anticipated Homecoming update. As showcased in the developer video above, which goes through the development process and what players can expect at release, the update will completely overhaul the multiplayer title.

Meanwhile, the Thronebreaker single-player campaign, which now sports "The Witcher Tales" tagline, will also launch alongside Gwent in October for PC. While this new adventure set in The Witcher universe was originally set to launch as a part of Gwent, the studio went on to make it an independent release and increase its scope.

Here's how the developer describes the RPG that employs Gwent rounds for its battles:

Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics. Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

Both Gwent and Thronebreaker will be exclusively available via GOG on October 23, but Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will need to wait until December 4 for the titles to release on their platforms. Gwent will remain a free-to-play card game, but Thronebreaker will sport a price tag which is yet to be revealed.

This is not the only high-profile card game that will be releasing in the coming months, as Gwent will also have a major contender come November with Valve also preparing to launch its own card game, Artifact.
