Gaming phones are increasingly gaining traction among smartphone makers, with Huawei having unveiled its own bet in the race last week and Nokia teasing an upcoming device with the same purpose. It's no secret as well that Samsung may be planning to jump on the bandwagon, and that prospect has hit the rumor mill once again with new details about what the gaming phone will likely pack under the hood.
Renowned leakster Ice universe took to Weibo to reveal that the South Korean tech giant continues to develop a gaming smartphone. While this piece of rumor is nothing new, the tipster went on to share that it's not impossible Samsung could also be testing the S-GPU on this device.
For the uninitiated, the S-GPU is supposed to be Samsung's in-house mobile GPU which began development in 2014, though the work has been reportedly delayed after the phone maker inked a deal with ARM to include its GPUs in the Exynos processors. However, back in June, Samsung was believed to have kicked off in-house development of a mobile GPU that analysts claim could rival that of Apple.
While much remains unknown about Samsung's supposed gaming phone, the rumored in-house GPU will be purportedly shipped first with the company's mid-range devices, though it's not clear when. With no official word or even a hint from Samsung in regard to the rumored gaming device, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.
