Intellivision reveals Amico console, features exclusive games and controllers with screens

Depending on your age, you might not be old enough to remember or know about the Intellivision. The console was released in 1979, around the same time as Atari's 2600 and was quite popular. Now, it looks like firm could be making a comeback, introducing its newest console, the Amico.

The Amico is just an idea at the moment, but the company is adamant about releasing a new console that will make its retail debut on October 10, 2020. The console isn't meant to compete with juggernauts like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and capture hardcore gamers, and is instead envisioned to be more casual.

Perhaps what is surprising is that every single game released for the Amico will be exclusive to the console. The games will cost between $2.99 to $7.99 and there will be no additional DLC sold - so what you pay for is the complete package. When it launches the console, it will include several built-in games that are reimaginings of some of Intellivision's classic titles.

The controllers will be quite unique, both wireless and featuring a small color display. They will also have "tilting positional discs", gyroscopes, accelerometers, speakers, microphones and will provide force feedback. When docked, the controllers will be able to charge using Qi wireless technology. Finally, the console will retail for around $149 to $179 in the United States.

As of now, those are just some of the details and if all goes to plan, in two years time, there will be a new Intellivision game console on the market, ready for purchase.
