THQ Nordic picks up Coffee Stain Studios and Bugbear Entertainment

THQ Nordic is once again expanding its studio roster, today adding two well-known indie developers to the mix. Coffee Stain Studios and Bugbear Entertainment, as well as all of their intellectual properties and publishing rights are now under THQ Nordic.

Coffee Stain Studios' developed and published games include the Sanctum series, Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, A Story About My Uncle, and others. The studio is currently working on Satisfactory, an open-world factory building simulator, but is said to have a major unannounced title in the works as well.

Coffee Stain CEO Anton Westbergh commented on the acquisition saying:

I strongly believe that THQ Nordic is a great home for Coffee Stain. In addition to having long experience within games development and publishing, THQ Nordic has the skills, willingness and capital to support our new releases and growth in the future"

Bugbear Entertainment, on the other hand, is quite popular in the racing genre, responsible for games such as Wreckfest and the FlatOut franchise. A console release of Wreckfest is planned for 2019.

Janne Alanenpää, the CEO of Bugbear, said the following regarding the new ownership:

“We are very excited to join forces with the THQ Nordic team. I believe THQ Nordic will become a perfect home for Bugbear to support our passion for games and for our customer. We look forward to accelerate our development of high quality racing games to contribute to THQ Nordic’s portfolio and future growth”

These acquisitions make THQ Nordic's portfolio even stronger, which already has Deep Silver under its belt, the publishers of the Metro and Saints Row series as well as recent hits such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance. THQ Nordic's own publishing arm is especially active also, heralding releases like Desperados III, Biomutant, and Darksiders III to name a few.

Microsoft is also working with THQ Nordic to bring over Windows 10 exclusive games to Steam, and all signs point to Sunset Overdrive joining that list soon.
