At Ignite earlier this year, Microsoft announced the Windows Virtual Desktop, which allows users to run a full multi-user Windows 10 experience in the cloud, powered by its own Azure platform. The feature makes it possible for users to set up a machine complete with Windows and Office 365 in a matter of minutes, according to the company, but it seems like that's not fast enough for Microsoft.
Brad Anderson and Julia White, corporate vice presidents for Microsoft 365 and Azure, respectively, today announced that the Redmond giant is making yet another acquisition, bringing in Georgia-based FSLogix. FSLogix is an app-provisioning platform which facilitates virtualization by reducing the time and resources required to support it.
This acquisition means that Office 365 ProPlus customers can benefit from added speed in their virtualization environments thanks to faster load times for user profiles, which is especially useful for multi-user environments such as the Windows Virtual Desktop mentioned above. Microsoft says its Office apps are very often virtualized by many businesses, so the speed improvements are likely to be welcomed by those who rely on them.
Despite being announced in September, the Windows Virtual Desktop feature still isn't available, but you can sign up to be notified when it's available for preview through Microsoft's website.
