Honor announces its new 20 and 20 Pro flagships

Today, Huawei's sub-brand Honor announced its latest family of flagship in the form of the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro. The company also announced the mid-range Honor 20 Lite, but the focus was on the more expensive models.

On the Honor 20 Pro, the main camera uses Sony's IMX586 48MP sensor, with an aperture of f/1.4, the largest of any available smartphone right now. There's also a 16MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, as well as an 8MP telephoto sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. Both the main camera and the telephoto support OIS, but the wide-angle doesn't. The camera setup has obtained a 111 score from DxOMark. On the front, in a punch-hole cutout in the corner of the display, Honor has put a 32MP camera with AI technology.

The regular Honor 20 also has a 48MP sensor, but it has a smaller f/1.8 aperture. The wide-angle and macro cameras are the same, but Honor removed the telephoto camera in favor of a 2MP sensor for additional depth sensing.

As for performance, the devices are powered by the Kirin 980 chipset, and it's using graphene cooling technology, which it says offers 27% better thermal performance than its competitors. The Honor 20 Pro has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, as well as a 4,000mAh battery. The regular Honor 20 sticks to 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,750mAh battery. The devices also support the company's 22.5W SuperCharge technology, which should get you 50% battery in thirty minutes of charging.

Honor has also come up with a new system software called EROFS, which increases the read speed by 20% and reduces the size of the OS by 14%. The company has also included GPU Turbo 3.0, which is now optimized for 25 different games, and promises speeds significantly higher than other Android devices. In the spirit of gaming, Honor will be selling a snap-on gamepad accessory, and those who buy an Honor 20 get an exclusive Fortnite skin, if you're still interested in that.

Honor also has some interesting sound features, with support for Virtual Surround 9.1 sound support which should work with most earphones. It also has frequency compensation powered by AI, which is supposed to help reduce strain when listening to music over long periods of time.

The Honor 20 Pro comes in two colors, Phantom Blue and Phantom Black, and it costs €599, while the Honor 20 comes in Sapphire Blue, Midnight Black, and Icelandic White, and it costs €499.

As we mentioned above, Honor also announced the 20 Lite, which is aimed at the mid-range market. It has a Kirin 710 chipset, a triple-lens camera on the back, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The main camera is 24MP, and there's also a 13MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensing camera. On the front, there's still a 32MP camera, but it's a waterdrop notch instead of a punch-hole. The Honor 20 Lite costs €299.
