If you're rocking a 2015 MacBook Pro, Apple may have some bad news and good news for you today. The bad news is that the company has discovered a risk of overheating on this model's battery, which can cause it to catch on fire inadvertently. The good news is that, if your device is one of those that are at risk, Apple will replace your battery free of charge.
The overheating issue specifically affects the 15-inch MacBook Pro released in mid-2015 and doesn't pose a threat to any other MacBook model. Apple says the potentially affected models were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017.
If you want to find out if your MacBook Pro is eligible for a replacement, you'll first need to open the Apple menu at the top of your screen and then click "About this Mac". If you see the name MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), then you should head to Apple's support website and enter your computer's serial number to verify that you can get a free battery replacement.
To get your replacement, you can make an appointment at one of its stores, contact Apple Support via e-mail, or visit an authorized service center, which now includes every Best Buy in the United States.
