Lenovo ThinkBook 13s unboxing and first impressions

ThinkBook is a new brand of laptops from Lenovo that's aimed at small- to medium-size businesses. We're all familiar with Think, the company's business brand, and of course, ThinkPads. You can think of ThinkBooks as ThinkPads, but without all of the things that make a ThinkPad a ThinkPad.

That means that they're made out of aluminum, they're not black, you won't find a TrackPoint, there are no physical buttons above the trackpad, and so on. The first two ThinkBooks to launch are the 13s and the 14s, and the 13s has just arrived.

These PCs are decidedly mid-range, with the ThinkBook 13s starting at just $577.37. The model that Lenovo sent me includes 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD for $656.57, and they all come with a Full HD display.

But there are some perks. It has a fingerprint sensor in the power button - something that you'll never find on a ThinkPad - that scans your fingerprint when you boot it up, so you don't have to press it again at the lock screen. It also has a ThinkShutter privacy switch in the camera, so there's no more putting tape over your lock screen.
