Microsoft releases new Cascadia Code font aimed at programmers

Microsoft has released a new monospace font called Cascadia Code. The new font was first announced at this year's Build, and it's inspired by Windows Terminal, which was internally known as Cascadia before it was released to the public.

As you'd expect, Cascadia Code is aimed at programmers and command line users, and Microsoft says it'll provide a "fresh experience" to those users. One of the highlights of the font is support for programming ligatures, which means certain symbols will automatically be combined to form custom symbols that may be easier to understand for some. It's worth noting, however, that if you're using Visual Studio Code, you'll need to enable font ligatures in settings.

The new font is also open-source and available on GitHub, so anyone can make contributions to the project. The version syntax will be the same as that of Windows 10 - for example, this is version 1909 - and Microsoft says it'll be adding new and refreshed glyphs with future updates.

If you want to try out the new font, you can download from the Releases page on GitHub.
