Huawei's lineup of tablets has typically been focused on consumption with its MediaPad brand, even the ones branded as Pro. Today at what would have been Mobile World Congress if that was still happening, Huawei introduced the MatePad Pro 5G. The new Mate branding signifies a change in direction for the device, as this one is clearly focused on creativity and productivity.
It uses the company's in-house Kirin 990 chipset, which is its top-of-the-line SoC. It also supports 5G, making it one of very few (if any) tablets to support the latest in cellular connectivity. Indeed, it's got both the performance and the connectivity chops.
It's also got the display, packing a 10.8-inch 2560x1600 screen and narrow bezels that give it a 90% screen-to-body ratio and a 280ppi pixel density. Brightness comes in at 540 nits, and it has a 1500:1 contrast ratio. For audio, it has Histen 6.0 for 3D stereo effects.
Naturally, it supports both Huawei's M-Pencil and the Smart Magnetic Keyboard. The M-Pencil charges wirelessly when it's magnetically attached, and it supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The keyboard includes a full 1.3mm of key travel, which is impressive for a tablet keyboard.
The Huawei MatePad Pro comes in seven variants. Three of them are Wi-Fi only, with the 6GB/128GB configuration coming in at €549, the 8GB/256GB variant coming in at €649, and a bundle that includes the 8GB/256GB variant and the M-Pencil coming in at €749. There are two LTE models, with the 6GB/128GB one coming in at €599, and the 8GB/256GB one running €699. Finally, the two 5G models come in 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB flavors, and they'll cost €799 and €949, respectively.
The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G will be available in June in China, Asia Pacific, EMEA, and Latin America. The MatePad Pro is coming in April, to Asia Pacific, EMEA, Russia, Japan, and Latin America.
