Uber app adds translation with support for over 100 languages and easier pickup method

Uber announced today that its mobile app has received new updates designed to help both riders and drivers with different languages communicate with each other and arrange pick-ups more easily.

First, Uber has introduced a new in-app translation service with support for more than 100 languages. This new feature is meant to help both drivers and riders quickly translate a pre-generated or written message into their preferred language. It's helpful during situations when English is not the preferred language and when the rider speaks a different language from the driver. In the app's previous version, the driver's message to a rider is displayed only in that driver's language preference regardless of what language the rider prefers.

In addition, the Uber app is making ride pickups more seamless for drivers and riders alike. The refreshed app will display a sequence of actionable notifications regarding the estimated minutes left before a driver arrives, the exact spot to meet a driver, and walking directions to the pickup area. The app will also provide navigation instructions when you're at airports, arenas or event venues. In addition, a driver's first name, license plate detail, car color/make/model will have a more prominent look when nearing arrival. These new features are rolling out to everyone in the next few days.
