UK: Pay Monthly Vodafone customers to receive free unlimited data

Vodafone has announced that Pay Monthly customers will receive 30-days of free access to unlimited mobile data. This will tide over those who are being asked to work from home but may not have access to home broadband services. Vulnerable customers will be the priority for the time being with 500,000 subscribers being notified that they’re eligible.

The free data is available through Vodafone’s VeryMe rewards scheme which is accessible through the My Vodafone app. The firm will monitor usage and if it thinks it can handle and expansion of the offer it will do so further down the line. While vulnerable customers will receive a text, the announcement does say that any Pay Monthly customer (consumer or small business), that’s registered with VeryMe, can apply.

Commenting on the measure, Vodafone UK CEO, Nick Jeffery, said:

“We are offering 30 days of unlimited free data to our most vulnerable customers and the first 500,000 customers to sign up, to help ease any worries about running out of data or incurring additional charges.

If our network capacity allows, we would love to be able to offer this to even more customers and will be monitoring the feasibility of this. In short, if we have more to give, we will.”

Vodafone has previously announced some measures to help people during this economically turbulent time. It has given Vodafone mobile customers free access to NHS online services and it has extended Wi-Fi Calling to more Pay Monthly customers helping them save their remaining minutes.
