The massive NPC-carrying Wastelanders update is soon coming to Bethesda's multiplayer survival game Fallout 76, and alongside it will arrive a Steam release for the PC version, which has been a Bethesda.net launcher exclusive since its launch in 2018.
In an interesting development, Bethesda today announced that those who have bought the game on Bethesda.net now have the opportunity to snag a free copy on Steam, letting them switch over if they prefer that platform.
To claim the free copy, all that's required is linking a Steam account to the Bethesda.net account that owns a copy of Fallout 76, which can be accomplished by going here. The offer is available until April 12, the release date of the Wastelanders update and the Steam version - delayed from the original April 7 launch. The game will be delivered to the registered Steam account on April 14 as well.
Although cross-play between the two PC platforms is a feature, not everything from players' in-game assets from the Bethesda.net version will carry over to Steam:
Please note, you will not be able to transfer your Atoms or Fallout 1st membership balance between Bethesda.net and Steam. Additionally, Atoms you earn are specific to one platform or the other. However, items you have purchased through the Atomic Shop will be available in both Bethesda.net and Steam.
Moreover, anyone who claims Fallout 76 through the aforementioned method or simply purchases the game on Steam before April 28, will get a free copy of Fallout Classic Collection. This pack contains Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics.
