Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could ship with lower starting price and base storage

Samsung might have already launched the Galaxy Z Flip in February this year, but the company's flagship foldable device -- the Galaxy Fold 2 -- is yet to be announced. The latest leak surrounding the Galaxy Fold 2 points to it coming with 256GB of base storage and a lower price tag.

The original Galaxy Fold launched at a staggering price of $1,980 despite months of delay and reliability concerns around its display. It was only available in one variant with 512GB of storage space. However, for the Galaxy Fold 2, Samsung intends on offering the device in two variants: 256GB and 512GB. The former seemingly carries the model number SM-F916. The lower storage variant will allow Samsung to price the Fold 2 a bit more sensibly compared to the original Fold. However, the device won't be cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip which costs $1,400 but packs slightly outdated internals and has a different clamshell form-factor.

Previous rumors surrounding the Galaxy Fold 2 point to it launching with an under-screen camera. The device would also use the same ultra-thin glass technology that Samsung has used on the Galaxy Z Flip, and the inner display would fold out to have a screen size of 7.7-inches making it slightly bigger than the 7.3-inch unfolded display of the Galaxy Fold. It is also rumored to have the same camera setup as the Galaxy S20+ and include 5G connectivity. Samsung could announce the Galaxy Fold 2 alongside its Galaxy Note20 lineup in July this year.
