Today, Chinese smartphone brand Honor revealed the latest duo of gaming phones to succeed the Honor Play. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the company opted for a virtual event as the medium to unveil its new Honor Play 4 and Play 4 Pro models. The launch presentation was broadcasted live today and was part of an recurring online tech event which is taking place daily until June 18.
Moving on to the juicy bits - the technical specifications of the two handsets. First off, both phones are 5G enabled and come in a range of three similar colours. Other common features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C charging and Bluetooth 5.1.
The Honor Play 4 will feature a 6.81-inch LCD (IPS) screen with a punch-hole camera notch on the upper left corner for the 16MP front camera. On the back, the smartphone will sport a quad-lens rear camera setup with a combination of a main 64MP lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800, the phone will run the Magic UI based on Android 10 out the box. It will also sport a 4300mAh battery and have an IP5X water resistance rating.
The Play 4 will come in two RAM and internal storage options priced accordingly. The first being a 6GB RAM plus 128 GB internal storage coupling for ¥1799 (~$252), and the second an 8GB RAM plus 128GB internal space option priced at ¥1999 (~$280). It will be available in three colors: black, blue and an opalescent pink.
As for the Play 4's upper tier counterpart, the Play 4 Pro will sport a 6.57-inch LCD (IPS) screen featuring a dual camera consisting of a 32MP lens paired with another 8MP lens on the front. The main camera setup will also have two lenses, a 40 MP lens with the Sony IMX600 sensor, a 1/1.7” sensor and an RYYB filter, and a secondary 8MP lens. The phone will come equipped with the Kirin 990 5G SoC, and run the Magic UI based on Android 10. It will feature 40W fast charging and a smaller 4200mAh battery.
The Honor Play 4 Pro will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space, with a regular version costing ¥2899 (~$407) and another priced at ¥2999 (~$421) equipped with an IR blaster. The Play 4 Pro will also be available in three colors - black, blue and a slightly different opalescent white with a blue hue.
Pre-orders for both phones in the Honor Play 4 family are currently open in China. Deliveries for the Honor Play 4 will start shipping from June 9 and for the Honor Play 4 Pro from June 12 onwards. As of right now, it is unclear if and when the Huawei-owned sub-brand will launch the gaming smartphone duo globally.
