Apple's new braided USB-C to Lightning cable leaks, expected to ship with the iPhone 12

It was recently reported that Apple might not provide a charger or EarPods as part of the iPhone 12’s in-box accessories, sparking a debate about the move. The company reportedly plans to sell a 20W fast-charger separately as an accessory and may cite environmental benefits to not shipping a power brick in the box. The company, however, is expected to include a USB to Lightning cable in the box.

Now, a new leak by Twitter user DuanRui (spotted by 9to5Mac) suggests that the company will include a braided USB-C to Lightning connector in the box, an upgrade over the current offering. The user also posted a few images of the said cable. These leaks corroborate earlier reports about the inclusion of just the Lightning to USB Type-C cable.

From the looks of it, the cable seems to be of high quality and will, therefore, be more durable. The company has been called out in the past for shipping subpar cables that easily broke, making users spend on a replacement unit to be able to charge their phones. While the addition of a better cable in the box might not compensate for the exclusion of the charger, it will be a welcome move for customers.

Interestingly, the Cupertino giant reportedly sent out a survey earlier this month asking users about what they did with the USB-based power adapter that shipped with their older device when they upgraded their iPhone. While the survey itself is not confirmation that the company would do away with the power brick from the iPhone 12 box, it hints at the firm gathering feedback.

The iPhone 12 is reportedly facing production delays and might not be released during the usual September timeline.
