Today, Intel is sending out save-the-date invitations to journalists for a virtual event that will be held on September 2. The image only says, "Drop in. We have something big to share..." And frankly, that's all we know for sure.
The obvious guess would be that the firm is about to announce its 11th-generation mobile processors, codenamed Tiger Lake. Intel has been teasing Tiger Lake for a while, and what we know is that it will be built on a 10nm+ process, similar to 10th-generation 'Ice Lake', and it will include the company's new Xe graphics. You can also expect some solid CPU clock speed improvements.
Intel has a little bit of catch-up to do in the CPU space. Its chief competitor AMD is making chipsets built on a 7nm process, after Intel delayed 10nm for years. In fact, the vast majority of Intel's 10th-gen lineup is still using a 14nm process. It's just a portion of the U-series and Y-series that are 10nm right now. Presumably, Intel will finally kill off its 14nm selection of mobile processors with Tiger Lake. That would mean that business customers and gamers will have their first chance to use the improved process.
Intel could also tease something about its Hybrid Technology, if you really wanted to try and draw some clues out of the invitation. The company is promising something big and using all lowercase letters, something that would point to the use of big and little cores. Or - and this is more likely - it's just a coincidence.
