Today, Brydge took the wraps off of the SPX+, its new keyboard for the Surface Pro X that turns it into a clamshell-style device. Brydge is known for such products, making a bunch of keyboards for iPads and for Surface devices. This product should sound familiar to you too, because it was actually announced back at CES as the Brydge Pro X.
At the time, Brydge said that the product is coming in Q3 or Q4, and a lot has changed. For one thing, a new Surface Pro X has been announced. But also, the design of the SPX+ has changed.
The color of the keyboard is now all black, rather than having accents. There's also a Platinum model, which undoubtedly exists thanks to the new Platinum color of the Surface Pro X. Brydge doesn't have any images of that unit on its website though.
It has the perks that you'd expect from an attachable keyboard, such as a Precision trackpad, backlit keys, and a 180-degree hinge (no, it's not convertible). Like the rest of Brydge's keyboards, it uses Bluetooth to connect to the device rather than the connector that Microsoft's Type Covers use. According to Brydge, it gets six months of battery life.
Of course, the big value proposition is that it allows you to use your Surface Pro X as a laptop-style device. The Bluetooth keyboard has two clamps on it that slide right onto the PC, and they have a tight hinge. There's also a battery in the keyboard, so it's balanced enough that the PC isn't too top-heavy.
