OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei creates Nothing, and its first products are coming soon

Last year, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei surprised the world when he announced he would be leaving the smartphone company after a seven-year tenure. It wasn't completely clear at the time what Pei would be working on next, but now the project has officially been unveiled - and it's Nothing.

Nothing is a new technology company, but that's about all we really know about the products it will be making. The company gathered $7 million in seed financing, including investors such as YouTuber Casey Neistat, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, and Reddit CEO Steve Huffman. Carl Pei describes the company's mission saying:

“Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing.”

Pei also states that nothing interesting has really been happening in the tech world, and that it's time for that to change. The company's website teases its work as a "giant reset button for all things innovation", stating that it's rethinking everything and starting from scratch. That still doesn't say much about the company's products, though.

We shouldn't have too long to wait to know more, though. The announcement today comes with the promise of products coming in the first half of the year, so we should learn what those products are soon enough.
