Microsoft has multiple development channels for its Edge browser including Beta (updated every six weeks), Dev (weekly), and Canary (daily). The company updates these channels with new features and enhancements at a fixed release cadence. For example, a built-in Math Solver that was rolled out in Edge Canary a couple of months ago.
Now, it appears that the Redmond tech giant is adding improvements to reverse-image search capabilities in Microsoft Edge.
As spotted by eagle-eyed Reddit user Leopeva64-2, Microsoft appears to be testing the capability of reverse-searching images in Bing sidebar. This is similar to the existing feature where you can highlight text, right click to get the context menu, and then select "search in sidebar for..." to surf Bing in the sidebar.
When a user right clicks an image and selects "Search Bing in sidebar for image", they'll be able to reverse-search the image and also be served relevant content. Furthermore, Bing sidebar will have the ability to extract text from images as well.
The change is not widely available yet and appears to be a part of Microsoft's controlled rollout strategy. Leopeva64-2 only has the capability in Edge Dev, while we don't have it in any channel on our test devices.
It will be interesting to see whether Bing sidebar image search makes its way to the general public. The decision to roll it out likely depends upon how frequently it is used in Edge's development channels and whether it increases the productivity of users.
