  2. Fallout 4 next-gen update is live with new render modes, Creation Club content, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The highly anticipated next-gen update for Fallout 4 is finally here, just as promised. Other than enhancements for the current-gen consoles, Bethesda has filled the update with Creation Club content, widescreen support, bug fixes, and more. The popular RPG is now a native application on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles, and the developer now has two performance modes for players to choose from when jumping in. The first is Quality Mode, which runs the game at 30FPS at 4K resolution and at Ultra settings without dynamic resolution scaling. If the player is using a 120Hz display, Quality Mode will target 40FPS instead. Meanwhile, the Performance Mode will target 60FPS at 4K resolution, and will utilize standard graphics settings alongside dynamic resolution to hit that frame rate. Interestingly, if Fallout 4 detects a 1440p display is connected to the console, it will automatically run at that resolution and target 60FPS at Ultra settings instead, regardless of what mode was selected. PC players will find official support for widescreen and ultra-widescreen displays now. For handheld gaming fans, Fallout 4 Steam Deck verification has finally arrived with this update too. The title is now also available on the Epic Games Store for the first time. Here are all the bug fixes included with this update straight from the changelog, which even apply to last-generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players: Resolved issues preventing Japanese and Chinese users from connecting to Bethesda.net (this restores access to Mods). Resolved issue preventing save data from properly loading during the prologue. Resolved issue that could prevent the Vault 111 Door from opening on new games. Resolved issue that could prevent the quest “Go Home” from advancing. Resolved issue that could result in Codsworth being broken on the ground after fast traveling. Resolved issue with mipmaps in DLC. Resolved issue that could result in a softlock when in dialogue with Prestson Garvey. Resolved issue preventing autosaves while fast traveling in Power Armor. Fixed issue where text would occasionally disappear in the Creation Club menu. Resolved issues with text formatting in the credits in Japanese and Chinese. Resolved issue causing the camera to fail when leaving furniture after an extended time. Fixed issue that could misplace quest markers while the VR Workshop Creation was installed alongside Automatron. Resolved issue with player movement in some underwater areas at Thicket Excavations. Resolved issue that could cause corruption within the Settlement system resulting in wrong resource counts and/or destroyed settlements. Resolved issue where the “Level Up” notification would display even if there was not a level up available. Fixed some flickering in Vault 111. Stability improvements. PC Only Resolved issue preventing saves being made under Windows Usernames with Cyrillic, Chinese, or Japanese characters. Creation Kit Removed non-functional “Hot Load” button. Removed non-functional “Material Editor” button. Editor IDs longer than 99 characters will no longer crash the editor. Resolved crash that could occur while viewing a quest’s Objectives tab. Resolved hang that could occur while adding a reference to a layer. Other than that, the "Enclave Remnants (New!), Enclave Weapon Skins, Enclave Armor Skins, Tesla Cannon, Hellfire Power Armor, X-02 Power Armor, Heavy Incinerator, Halloween Workshop (New!), Makeshift Weapon Pack (New!)" Creation Club items are now available to all players for free. The Fallout 4 Next-gen Update is now rolling out across, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, and GOG), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Its size seems to vary from platform to platform, with Steam users seeing a 15GB download, while Xbox players are seeing a 22GB update.

The FCC is voting today to bring back net neutrality in the U.S.

I agree with you on the first part, but completely disagree with you on the second. Anyone CAN in fact do any of those things (at least here in the US). Whether or not they are successful at it is another point entirely.

  6. "Build 22635.3500 (currently available in the Beta Channel) introduces a new "Account Manager," which replaces buttons like "Sign out," "Change user," and "Lock" with a Microsoft 365 ad. Now, to sign out of your profile, you have to witness your subscriptions first, open a new submenu, and only then press "Sign out."" That is not accurate whatsoever. That is not a Microsoft 360 "ad" and those steps to sign out, sleep, shut down. etc. are absolutely not required. Nor do you need to "witness your subscription" to do any of them.

  8. WinRAR 7.01 beta improves stability & bug fixes by Razvan Serea WinRAR is an archiving utility that completely supports RAR and ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives. It consistently makes smaller archives than the competition, saving disk space and transmission costs. WinRAR offers you the benefit of industry strength archive encryption using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a key of 128 bits. It supports files and archives up to 8,589 billion gigabytes in size. It also offers the ability to create self extracting and multi volume archives. With recovery record and recovery volumes, you can reconstruct even physically damaged archives. WinRAR 7.01 Beta 1 fixed bugs: updating an encrypted file in a solid RAR archive produced a corrupt archive if updated file was the first in archive, no password was specified when starting updating and file name encryption in the updated archive wasn't enabled; WinRAR 7.00 crashed after switching to "Flat folders view" mode from archive subfolder; switch -ep4 duplicated the specified path instead of excluding it when extracting; if archive created by Unix RAR version contained symlinks with path separator characters in target paths, these characters could be broken when modifying such archive with Windows RAR; invalid file name was displayed in file rename and file execute WinRAR error messages; SFX "Shortcut" command failed to recognize empty parameters defined like "Shortcut=D,"",folder", while correctly recognizing such parameters without quote marks like "Shortcut=D,,folder"; volume reconstruction didn't work in WinRAR.exe if "rc" command was specified with .rev file, such as "WinRAR rc arc.part1.rev". Unlike RAR, WinRAR required to use only .rar file name here. What should I do with this free PC?

I have a similarly spec'd PC that I use as the brains of an Arcade machine, I have a few USB hubs connected to it that connect the arcade buttons, etc.. and then have a Television for the video and have the PC sitting inside a wood cabinet that the controls sit on top of. TL;DR: RetroArc / Batocera Arcade cabinet PC.
  10. Well about time Microsoft you have only been doing this for over 50 years. LOL That was just sarcasm based on the headline folks so put the pitch forks down. I do actually question Microsoft being expected to provide security updates after 10 years for a release. No one provides that level of support for free.

  12. Industria and LISA: Definitive Edition are free on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe It's giveaway time once again on the Epic Games Store, and the PC games store has brought a double drop to claim this time. To replace The Big Con freebie from last week, Epic is now offering copies of Industria and LISA: The Definitive Edition. Like other giveaways from the store, you have a week to grab a copy and add it permanently to your library. From the duo, Industria arrives as an atmospheric FPS set in Cold War-era East Berlin, where the player is pulled into a mysterious parallel dimension. The developer Bleakmill says the story-driven campaign has about four hours of gameplay filled with danger, a tight atmosphere, and a unique soundtrack featuring synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and melancholic vocals. Here's how the studio describes the setting On the evening of the fall of the Berlin wall, a young woman plunges headlong into a parallel dimension to find her missing work colleague who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. While the checkpoints in East Berlin are still being overrun by crowds of people, Nora escapes from this world, into unknown layers of time and into an unknown fate. Next up, LISA: The Definitive Edition offers both Lisa: The Painful and its sequel DLC chapter, Lisa: The Joyful, in a single package. The post-apocalyptic RPGs offer a "miserable, hilarious" experience that has players making hard choices that affect the gameplay quite drastically. "Make sacrifices to keep your party members alive, whether it's taking a beating for them, losing limbs, or some other inhuman torture. In this world, you will learn that being selfish and heartless is the only way to survive," adds developer Dingaling. Industria usually costs $19.99 when not on sale, while LISA: The Definitive Edition goes for $9.99. Both packages are now available from the Epic Games Store for the low, low price of free. This giveaway promotion will last until May 2. Coming up next on the freebie train, on the same day, will be a copy of Orcs Must Die 3, the cooperative tower defense entry.

Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon X Plus for Windows 11 ARM PCs

Well, it did, but that doesn't explain why you can't just boot a regular ARM version of a Linux distro on Surface Pros. Why does it have to be almost "baked" like for SBCs?

The FCC is voting today to bring back net neutrality in the U.S.

Well during the original boom of the Internet it operated under the idea of net neutrality and it didn't seem to be a problem. Most people have exactly one option for high speed home Internet so it seems there should be some government oversight. My ISP has always been fairly poor and it's not even Comcast.

  21. Microsoft is reportedly making security improvements its current top priority at the company by John Callaham Microsoft has been the victim of a number of high-profile hacker attacks on its services in recent months. Today, a new report says that Microsoft is making a much bigger effort to beef up its own security features and services, as it fears it may lose customers due to these recent cyberattacks. One of them was reported back in July 2023. A China-based hacker group used an acquired MSA key to forge its own tokens and that allowed the group to access Outlook email accounts in the US and Europe. In January 2024, another hacker group based in Russia managed to access the email accounts of some of Microsoft's top executives. The company later admitted the hackers used the information in those emails to gain access to some of its source code. Earlier in April, a security group discovered that one of its Azure storage servers was open to anyone who might know how to access it because it was not password-protected. All of these incidents, and others, have reportedly caused Microsoft to make a big sea change in its projects. The Verge reports, via unnamed sources, that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and President Brad Smith addressed these issues in an internal leadership conference earlier in April. The report says that Nadella and Smith told the people at the conference that security improvements are now Microsoft's biggest priority. The report says that means teams at Microsoft are now emphasizing security improvements over adding new features or trying to ship out new products ahead of schedule. Even with this new push for beefing up security, there are some people who also believe Microsoft should not make customers pay more for security features. Long-time Microsoft journalist and analyst Mary Jo Foley wrote an article this week on that subject. She stated the company should include vital security options as part of their basic subscription plans, rather than offering them for extra fees. With Microsoft now on notice about its security flaws, it remains to be seen if their efforts to boost their activities in this area will bear fruit and keep its customers from leaving.
  22. I got the idea from signing into Windows with my @live.com account on a Home SKU, friend. I've installed Windows 10 and 11 on probably hundreds of computers since 10 was in beta, and have never once seen it force me to change a password.
  23. Good Bot, Bad Bot

The FCC is voting today to bring back net neutrality in the U.S.

Huh? ISPs don't produce content just access to the Internet. Regardless, do you think anyone can just start up their own newspaper, TV station, or social media site?
  24. Southern Patriot

The FCC is voting today to bring back net neutrality in the U.S.

Think that through. How do you propose for ISPs to monitor EVERY SINGLE SITE on the internet that their customers might want to visit? Do you want your ISP shut down because you chose to visit PornHub? Or Neowin? ISPs are NOT publishers. They are utilities, just like your water and power utilities. It's right there in the name, Internet SERVICE PROVIDER. I generally vote Republican, but this is one of the issues that I totally disagree with most of them on. Most Congress critters in general (on both sides) don't have the first clue when it comes to regulating technology, or even how things work.
  25. Hopefully the EU brings about a law that requires payment to end users for using the systems they've paid for as a platform for advertising. Then and only then will microsoft rethink such stupid anti-consumer practices. End users using their system to navigate to a website for a service and seeing ads is totally different from them purchasing a system yet still getting fresh ads on them without navigating to any other service. The latter should be paying end users.
  26. This is what happens when the "wizards" at MS did away with multiple SKUs of WIndows, in other words, one size for all.
