  2. Sega announces major layoffs across UK studios, sells Company of Heroes maker Relic by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega has announced some major changes to its Western gaming divisions. 240 positions across its Sega Europe, Creative Assembly, and Sega HARDlight game development studios are being cut, while developer Relic Entertainment is being sold off completely. Sega has said most of the jobs being cut are from the Creative Assembly and Sega Europe divisions. Creative Assembly is responsible for the hit strategy franchise Total War on the PC platform, and only last year released the Ancient Egypt-set Total War: Pharaoh. The studio was also developing a AAA hero-based multiplayer project named Hyenas, which Sega canceled last year during open beta phases. It's unclear how many of the 240 lost positions are from Creative Assembly. "Creative Assembly continues to have multiple projects in development with Total War and a new unannounced project," adds Sega regarding the future of the studio. At the same time, Sega confirmed that Relic Entertainment is being sold. The move will make the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War developer an independent studio, which Relic says has been accomplished with help from an "external investor." It's unclear who this third-party investor is currently. Sega says it is "working closely with Relic on this shift, and we wish them the best for the future." Relic has also been responsible for developing Microsoft's latest Age of Empires entry for PC and Xbox, and support for the strategy game is still ongoing. "To our fans, we want to assure you we will continue to support our titles, including Company of Heroes 3," says Relic in a social media post regarding the move. "We want to thank SEGA, whose support over the years and guidance during this transition have been instrumental to our success. We may be out of the SEGA business, but we remain friends and colleagues." Important Update from Relic Entertainment pic.twitter.com/nCcF8olDaC — Relic Entertainment (@relicgames) March 28, 2024 This is not the only major shift in ownership that happened today. Earlier, Take-Two Interactive announced it had acquired Gearbox Entertainment for $460 million.

    SeaMonkey 2.53.18.2

SeaMonkey 2.53.18.2 by Razvan Serea The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite. Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users. Under the hood, SeaMonkey uses much of the same Mozilla source code which powers such successful siblings as Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, Sunbird and Miro. Legal backing is provided by the Mozilla Foundation. SeaMonkey 2.53.18.2 changelog Block set-cookie from multipart/x-mixed-replace with pref bug 1864385. Check if WorkerRunnable::Run runs on top of WorkerThreadPrimaryRunnable::Run in a worker thread bug 1867982. Process pairs in coord list in PolyArea bug 1878211. SeaMonkey 2.53.18.2 contains (among other changes) the following major changes relative to SeaMonkey 2.49.5: The Bookmarks Manager has switched its name to Library, and now also includes the History list. When History is invoked, the Library will be shown with the History list selected. The extensive modifications were needed because of Mozilla Gecko platform API changes. Download Manager has been migrated to a new API. Although it looks pretty much the same as before, the search option is missing and some other minor details work differently. The previous downloads history is removed during the upgrade. The layout panel was added to the CSS Grid tools. TLS 1.3 is the default SSL version now. Support for all NPAPI plugins like Flash, Java and Silverlight has been removed. For displaying pdf files in the browser you can use pdf.js-seamonkey from Isaac Schemm. SeaMonkey now uses a new api for formatting regional data like time and date. Default is to use the application locale of the current SeaMonkey build. If you use a language pack or a different OS formatting this is usually not desired. You can change the formatting from the application locale to the regional settings locale (OS) in the preferences dialog under "Appearance". SeaMonkey-specific changes SeaMonkey now uses gtk3 on Linux. If you experience a problem because of this please file a bug. Please try another OS theme first. Some of them are buggy and cause problems with SeaMonkey, Thunderbird and Firefox. 9. Can you show me on the doll where the Xbox console touched you? You clearly have no idea what you're talking about and you're just making random assumptions and jumping to random conclusions based only on fake rumors fueled by your hatred of Xbox. By replying to my own comment, I want to add a problem Xbox as a creative division inside the Microsoft company has, and that is content. Microsoft being a US company culture wise through and through as other US American cultural entities are in a nstate of calamity, because since about ten years an extremely waspish social climate fueled from the political extremes left and right as well as an insular and silly perspective on their own history which as they don't understand is not only not shared with relevant markets like Europe and E.Asia but even outright rejected has gained ground in US society. Take Microsoft's advice about creative standards on female physiques in games as an example. Puritanical guidelines do not exactly win over the European and Asian audience. In short: The US is no longer perceived by non-US citizens as a global cultural beacon. So the content produced over there keeps falling flat again and again.

How to restore old Notepad in Windows 11

Old Notepad has it's use cases. Especially when you want X to close the text file, not remember it as an open tab. New Notepad is entering market of Notepad++ but it's to bare bones to replace it. Meanwhile nothing is moving in to fill the gap of what old notepad was ideal for. If you have Total Commander you might prefer F4 to open new old notepad window each time rather than new tab in new notepad. It's a productivity thing, adjusting to that specific change slows some people down. Only reason I'll use new notepad still is the dark mode. If oldy one had dark mode, I would revert to it.

  16. I understand, ripping out the optical drive and changing the colour of the package is not particular laborious. But the Xbox division still concerning themselves with hardware stuff where they utterly failed, is unintelligible. Look at their latest hardware numbers in Spain: PS5: 6.500 NSW: 2.700 XBS: <500 [ https://www.gamereactor.es/pri...ra-nintendo-switch-1134993/ ] Microsoft acknowledging the fact that Game Pass has no future agaisnt Steam and their console hardware ambitions are irrecoverable dead hesitantly steer their Xbox user base in that direction, to mentally and spendingwise prepare their migration to Playstation/PC. If business behaviour were determined by personal ethics Microsoft would refrain from sending deceptive signals like the one above.

    Wireshark 4.2.4

Wireshark 4.2.4 by Razvan Serea Wireshark is a network packet analyzer. A network packet analyzer will try to capture network packets and tries to display that packet data as detailed as possible. You could think of a network packet analyzer as a measuring device used to examine what's going on inside a network cable, just like a voltmeter is used by an electrician to examine what's going on inside an electric cable (but at a higher level, of course). In the past, such tools were either very expensive, proprietary, or both. However, with the advent of Wireshark, all that has changed. Wireshark is perhaps one of the best open source packet analyzers available today. Deep inspection of hundreds of protocols, with more being added all the time Live capture and offline analysis Standard three-pane packet browser Multi-platform: Runs on Windows, Linux, OS X, Solaris, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and many others Captured network data can be browsed via a GUI, or via the TTY-mode TShark utility The most powerful display filters in the industry Rich VoIP analysis Read/write many different capture file formats Capture files compressed with gzip can be decompressed on the fly Live data can be read from Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, PPP/HDLC, ATM, Bluetooth, USB, Token Ring, Frame Relay, FDDI, and others (depending on your platfrom) Decryption support for many protocols, including IPsec, ISAKMP, Kerberos, SNMPv3, SSL/TLS, WEP, and WPA/WPA2 Coloring rules can be applied to the packet list for quick, intuitive analysis Output can be exported to XML, PostScript®, CSV, or plain text Wireshark 4.2.4 changelog: Bug Fixes If you are upgrading Wireshark 4.2.0 or 4.2.1 on Windows you will need to download and install Wireshark 4.2.4 or later by hand. The following vulnerabilities have been fixed wnpa-sec-2024-06 T.38 dissector crash. Issue 19695. CVE-2024-2955. Additionally, CVE-2024-24478, CVE-2024-24479, and CVE-2024-24476 were recently assigned to Wireshark without any coordination with the Wireshark project. 19. Gearbox gets bought by Take Two Interactive for $460 million; confirms new Borderlands game by John Callaham A few weeks ago, unconfirmed rumors claimed Embracer Group was close to selling off Gearbox Entertainment. Late on Wednesday, publisher Take Two Interactive confirmed it plans to acquire Gearbox for $460 million in an all-share deal. Take Two's press release says that the deal will officially close during the company's 2025 fiscal first quarter, which ends on June 30, 2024. By contrast, Embracer Group acquired Gearbox in 2021 for a whopping $1.4 billion. Take Two is already the publisher for Gearbox's hit Borderlands game franchise, which will soon become a major live-action motion picture in August 2024. Wednesday's press release says Gearbox Entertainment currently has six upcoming games in the works at its various studios and also under its own publishing division. That includes May's release of Homeworld 3, along with another unnamed game in the Borderlands franchise. Of the other four unnamed games, three are sequels, and the other is described as an "exciting new intellectual property." When the deal closes, Gearbox will operate as a studio within Take Two's 2K Studios division and will continue to be led by its co-founder Randy Pitchford. This may finally be one of the last acts by Embracer Group to sell off or shut down its studios after a months-long restructuring that began in June 2023. Since then the group has shut down at least two large studios and cut jobs from a number of other development teams, along with canceling projects. A couple of weeks ago, Embracer announced it was selling off most of its Saber Interactive studios to a newly formed company, Beacon Interactive, for $247 million. Embracer still owns a number of game studios, including Tripwire, Aspyr, Tuxedo Labs, and more. It has 14 upcoming games, including Tripwire's zombie-themed shooter sequel Killing Floor 3. However, most of them are currently unannounced.
  20. Sam Bankman-Fried set to receive jail sentence in New York on Thursday by Paul Hill Sam Bankman-Fried, the former head of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, is due to be handed a prison sentence on Thursday in New York. Bankman-Fried is currently 32 years old and prosecutors are seeking to have him locked up for 40 to 50 years, meaning he could easily die behind bars. The prosecutors say that this jail term is justified for lying to investors and banks and stealing billions in deposits from customers. His defense team, however, is seeking leniency because a bankruptcy process will see investors receive back a hefty chunk of their deposits, valued at the price they were at when FTX went under. The defense argues that as money is being returned, it couldn’t have all vanished into Bankman-Fried’s own pockets. It’s worth noting that with FTX returning money valued at the time of its collapse, investors will be missing out on the recent Bitcoin rally which will most likely annoy a large percentage of those who invested. Despite what his defense has said, a US jury found Bankman-Fried guilty of stealing billions in customer’s money from the exchange before it collapsed so that he could buy property, make political donations, and make other investments. Giving comment on the chances of leniency in the sentence, Columbia Law professor Daniel Richman said: “Any judge or lawyer will tell you that one of the best things the defendant can do before being sentenced is really really show he's on the right path, show some remorse and show some degree of self-knowledge as to his offence. Here you not only have a defendant who went to trial but you have one who really, at least the judge believed, was obstructive prior to trial.” Bankman-Fried’s mother, Barbara Fried, who is a former law professor, said in an appeal to the judge that the US justice system is too punitive in its nature and makes it an “extreme outlier among democracies.” She said that if Bankman-Fried is locked away for decades it “will destroy Sam as surely as would hanging him.” The sentence will be handed down during court hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time. 21. Amazon ups investment in AI firm Anthropic to $4 billion by Paul Hill Amazon has announced an additional $2.75 billion in investment for the AI company Anthropic. This builds on top of a previous $1.25 billion investment last year meaning that the total invested has now risen to $4 billion. As part of the deal for the money, Amazon has been given a minority stake in Anthropic allowing it to help guide the company’s direction. It is also able to offer Anthropic’s models on Amazon Bedrock, an AWS fully-managed service that allows developers to build generative AI features into their apps and services. Another important aspect of the agreement is that Anthropic will train and deploy its models on the AWS Cloud using Trainium and Inferentia chips. It will also work with Amazon on the future development of Trainium and Inferentia technology. For a bit of background, Amazon has taken note of how power-hungry generative AI is and has developed these two technologies as a result. With the Trainium purpose-built chip, Amazon delivers up to 50% cost-to-train saving over comparable Amazon EC2 instances. The Inferentia chip enables models to generate inferences faster and at a lower cost with up to 40% better price performance. Commenting on the news, Dr Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of Data and AI at AWS, said: “We have a notable history with Anthropic, together helping organizations of all sizes around the world to deploy advanced generative artificial intelligence applications across their organizations. Anthropic’s visionary work with generative AI, most recently the introduction of its state-of-the art Claude 3 family of models, combined with Amazon’s best-in-class infrastructure like AWS Tranium and managed services like Amazon Bedrock further unlocks exciting opportunities for customers to quickly, securely, and responsibly innovate with generative AI.” The tighter collaboration between Anthropic and Amazon will allow the AI startup to continue its work in more security. One of main issues for these new AI startups is funding and resources and we’ve seen many of them come to the bigger players like Microsoft and Amazon to get on a more sustainable path.
