AccuWeather on Verizon is terrible.

Recommended Posts

When I heard that Verizon was switching from the Weather Channel to AccuWeather on their phones I didn't think much about it.

As it turns out, AccuWeather is horrible! Where I live we get occasional severe storms. The other day we were getting strong winds and hail. When I clicked on the Accuweather link on the front of my phone, the radar was an hour and half behind!

It that had been just a temporary issue it wouldn't be bad. But it's always inaccurate. Always giving ridiculous notifications.

I need to know if the Weather Channel app is any good. Does it use a lot of battery? I downloaded it and was instantly greeted with a screen full of ads. I'm pretty sure they were "opt out" and can probably clear them out pretty quickly but was wondering about battery life.

Any other weather apps anyone else would suggest? Thanks.

what make model phone? (edit nevermind, I see you have an LG G3)

some come with default weather apps (Samsung/Sony etc)

I went through a variety of weather apps for my MotoG 4G, I got sick and tired of the Weather & Clock widget from Devexpert as it needs constant app updates just to give anything resembling an up to date weather report, was too frustrating for my taste, I couldn't fathom why it had to update almost every day.

I found the Transparent Clock and Weather app on play store, by Droid27, it's not the worst app on there, a little vague, (Compared to the stock app on my Z1 Compact and my wife's SGS4) (about a 3 degree, plus or minus buffer)

But on the other hand, it doesn't need an app update every day, and once set, it's reasonable, using the widget on the home screen, I never see the ads. But it did take a few minutes longer than I would have like to set it up (location, update interval, update over wifi only, clock preferences etc)(but these were personal preferences, so I had to take the time to set it up, once set up, you never need to touch it again, and you can choose the size of the widget on your home screen)

I just use the weather underground app. I generally never use what is provided with a device as I know it paid to be there even if it is not the best I ever to be there.

Just want to update this thread for future viewers. I am liking the Weather Underground app. I found it easy to navigate and the radar updates the screen nicely and is timely. I havent tested it under severe weather conditions yet so dont yet know how well the severe weather notifications work.

With the speeds of todays internet/wireless connections, I never have figured out why anyone would need a weather app anyway? Nothing but a total waste of space and resources!

Why not just simply bookmark a favorite weather site and just go there to check weather, or, is everyone's face to buried in Facebook or some other crap socially diseased site to bother?

Must be that's the new "cool" thing to do is see how many apps you can have installed to go along with your 6 million "friends" on Facebook! ;)

Apps organize stuff better as well as more touch optimized. Also apps can be faster then mobile site versions. accuweather's mobile site is terrible. it has ads that even circumvent adaway, sometimes locks up my phone, etc...

@cork1958: I would noreally not care about this except we have severe storms where I live and no sirens.

When I try to go to the weather channel on my phone a bar blocks the radar so I cannot see it. This is a bar that contain the icons of Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The only way I have to do it now is to unmute one of our local weather guys on Twitter during stormy weather.

I appreciate all suggestions.
