Anyone know who the following quotations is by ? Also do you agree with it ?

Just to clarify, a sage is someone of wisdom that no longer seeks it, or someone that thinks they are wise when in reality they are not.

From that, I would say that I disagree with the quote. A sage has no age, so I would say that it is other people telling a person to go away because they think they are wiser even if that isn't the case.

I disagree.A sage is someone who has who has attained elightment in whatever he/she is seeking.

I have to agree with the OP.

sage1

noun
1. a profoundly wise person; a person famed for wisdom.
2. someone venerated for the possession of wisdom, judgment, and experience.

People actually say "when around fifty is your age"?  Why not "by age 50" ?

Because then it doesn't rhyme!  And who wants a cool saying that doesn't rhyme?  No one, that's who.

And the only Google result of that quote is this thread.

A sage by definition needs someone or a group to venerate their knowledge one cannot just say "Im a sage" and I agree with Nick just because people venerate a person does not make them any wiser than anybody else they may even be wrong i.e. US religious groups like controlled by David Koresh [Waco seige].

Historically Id suggest sages were extremely old before their "wisdom" was cherished or sought so 50 is rather young to be wordly wise you`d be looking to be nearer 80 or more.
