Why is the Sony network so slow?

I'm trying to reinstall all of mky PS3 games (15 + 3 PSN) and it is taking AGES because I@m only getting about 40kb/s download speeds. A lot of my games have 200MB+ updates :(

I'm based in the UK....

Is everyone else getting crap speeds like this?

I dunno if it ever maxes my connection, but speeds are always okay-good for me.

Have you setup a manual IP on your PS3 and opened up the required ports for PSN/made the IP a DMZ?

Yeah, I've port-forwarded all the ports as specified by games manuals & playstation support. PS3 has a fixed I.P via secured wireless also.

Web browsing is same speed as normal..only the PS3 is slow and it always has been.

Try setting the PS3 IP up as a DMZ.

Perhaps in some countries there reaching near full capacity at busy times of the day.

Their server routing is just crap. I get really slow download speeds from them also. Web browsing and everything else is ok. They just need to fix their network.

I've been using 256k DSL for a year now. Gotta love those 33 kb/s max DL speeds!

And yeah, its just Sony, deal with it or get a 360 lol. (I know I'm being ignorant but I will pwn u if u ask for backup (plz dont I dont like typing))

Joking aside, they only recently opened it. They may be having issues with the demand and or new servers and on and on.

It has always been incredibly slow for me. Maybe one day they will get around to working all the kinks out. But then again I really doubt it.

I'm in the UK and I find my PS3 is always painfully slow downloading anything, it's just the network. If I need to do a system update i've taken to downloading it elsewhere and installing it from a disk.

I've got a 10/10 Mbit connection and I live in the northern part of Sweden. PSN downloads are usually blazing fast when I use a wired connection (wireless doesn't work very well for some). Funny thing is, sometimes I get better speeds when I download demos with my U.S. account.

I'm quite satisfied with downloads at around 1 megabyte/s.

The PSN is kind of inconsistent when it comes to downloads.

I've had horrible download speeds upgrading the firmware and with some demos. Sometimes while playing an offline game I get disconnected from the PSN and an error appears on the screen.

But then some other times things work OK. When I downloaded the episodes of Siren (9GB) they came at around 1MB/s which was pretty good.

It's probably just inconsistent mirroring.

You get good speeds no matter what service you are using so nothing new there lol :p

Downloads have always been fast for me. I downloaded a demo about an hour ago that was around 450MB, it was done within 5 mins.

Weird. After midnight the downloads went super fast. Either my ISP are playing funny buggers or its a time zone/demand issue. Grrrrrrr.
