  2. Google adds 10 more games to launch day line-up for Stadia

Meh. This whole stadia is another over hyped google “experiment” which they haven’t put as much thought as they should have before launching but it’s nice to push PlayStation and Xbox to push their cloud streaming competitors soon that has all the nice titles. 1. google doesn’t have contents (games) as Sony and Microsoft have. These are launch titles and none of them is google exclusive because they don’t have any studios 2. google may have technology but not the ecosystem or fan base as Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo currently have 3. they haven’t really thought about streaming challenges and they are prematurely launching it IMHO. No deal with telecoms or ISPs for all the overhead excessive bandwidth is required to play these games 4. for casual gamers which I assume this is for, they already own at least one of the three consoles and they play games with no lag, no high speed internet or excessive bandwidth required for free. I feel like this will have the same fate of google glass

  4. I liked Cortana quite a bit years ago when I carried a Windows Phone. At the time it was incredibly useful. However, competitors quickly out-paced it and now it seems like Microsoft is just slowly weaseling its way out of supporting the service without actually admitting to it. Give it another year or two and Cortana will be relegated to some sort of "Corporate" only service, morphed into something else entirely, and in another 5 years or so it'll be gone altogether. This, among other things, is why even after going so far as to make YouTube videos defending them, I no longer trust Microsoft. Windows Phone is dead, Cortana is on the way out, Skype has been fragmented into two separate apps that don't have feature parity, and at least the last time I looked doesn't even have a normal contacts list any more, and desktop Windows is a hot mess of adware, instability and unpredictability. You pay $100 for a piece of software and it still ends up installing "Candy Crush Saga" and other things in the background without your permission to pump up the number of installs from their also floundering Microsoft Store and generate some ad revenue. It's kinda sad to see the company waste so many opportunities to be competitive in so many markets. XBox and Azure seem to be the most viable products in the future for Microsoft, and if they don't turn things around next generation, even XBox might be in trouble.

  5. IMO the reason Bing and Cortana failed are the same, they reserved their best features for the US and did not release a basic common version worldwide. Microsoft rewards is a wonderful program, but restricted (which at least makes some sense). But Cortana straight up refusing to work on most regions of the world, even if it meant a voice search online... is just betting to lose.

  9. T-Mobile CEO John Legere is stepping down next year

just three days ago... " Turning around the mess that is WeWork isn’t going to be up to John Legere. According to CNBC, the current T-Mobile CEO does not intend to take the chief executive role, despite rumors earlier this week that WeWork was strongly pursuing him. Legere “has no plans” to depart T-Mobile as it nears completion of its merger with Sprint, CNBC says." welp that changed fast... so he was interviewing with WeWork then they wrote that, so I guess he did get the job?

  13. When recording anything, it's better to have the higher resolution for editing. I read an article about it a while back. Pretty interesting. Yeah, it lets you reframe a video after originally taking it. Plus, you can always downscale an 8K video to 4K for even better quality.

Shoot, I can't find anyone other than iPhone users that would spend more than 500 bucks on any phone, myself included. It's just not worth it (at least to me in a value/usage idea).

  15. Microsoft Consumer Business is DEAD! MS is and will be a B2B company going forward. They just don't want to let go so soon. I have said this over and over but they don't listen; divide the company and operate the consumer business as an autonomous unit. Windows Mobile would've survived if only they was a dedicated effort outside of desktop Windows. It also should have been renamed something cooler as Windows had a really bad reputation in the last decade. It will be hard for developers to trust Microsoft again after all the starts and stops with all their products outside of Windows, Azure and Office. Surface and the hardware business needs to be separated from the rest of the company, IMO.

  25. MATLAB codepath tweak massively boosts AMD Ryzen CPUs' performance

It likely has to do with the use of either Intel's libraries (MKL in this case) or its compiler altogether, but it's nothing new. Agner Fog wrote about the dispatcher, workarounds and all some 10 years ago already, although judging by the article I guess things haven't changed. This would be a good read: https://www.agner.org/optimize/blog/read.php?i=49#49 And for those into it (some are quite in-depth), his manuals and optimization resources are amazing! You should try AMD's integrated graphics then. Quite a bit faster than Intel's. Yes, I have heard they're better. But CPU side makes me skeptical. I'm encountering lots of bad experience comments and news about AMD's CPUs unfortunately.

Is neither an option? The next Xbox is going to released in around 12 months and I'd personally wait for that. As you don't have a 4K TV either, if you definitely want to upgrade I'd go for the S.

  33. Google adds 10 more games to launch day line-up for Stadia

For certain types of games e.g. long single player ones Stadia Base with no monthly fee and individual game purcheses could be great value. I don't have a console (and not going to get Xbox Ones or PS4 since current gen is almost over) or high-end desktop, so buying games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 and being able to play them at 1080p 60 fps on couch via TV, aging desktop and ultrabook sounds good. This all provided that the streaming quality and latency are ok, but I guess we all have better idea about them tomorrow.

  34. Google adds 10 more games to launch day line-up for Stadia

With regard to bandwidth, Google's VP thinks that ISPs will 'compete' and raise caps and increase bandwidth for services like Stadia. Which is a bit out of touch or insane, as most people don't have more than one high speed option for internet. The idea that the 'free market' will fix things in a bit nuts, and in ISP spaces, it is ######ing nuts. I also agree that Stadia is focused on weird things that are contrary to each other. They seem to be targeting 'light gamers', but with bandwidth and game purchase mechanisms, people that can afford games easily and have good bandwidth probably already have a console or PC for gaming. (Both of which players can stream to their other devices with existing tools.) The cost of the founders is crazy, considering for a bit more, people can pick up a full console, especially when they are onsale. The other odd thing, is how small their games list is. This is the one thing I would never have predicted, and I assumed Google would launch with 100s of titles not 10s. This is even more odd considering the subscription costs, and Google only have one game users can play for the subscription cost. Compared to Game Pass options, this is crazy - especially when gaming companies like Microsoft have a massive list and experience in this space. As for pushing other companies, I'm not sure how much Google's Stadia push adds into this, as the rollout of XCloud has been planned for a long time. If Stadia did push these companies to up their streaming option, then maybe there is one good thing about Stadia. Also, anyone that hasn't been following, be sure to read all the Stadia features that will be missing at launch, with some 'maybe' not even appearing in 2020. The 'industry' is very skittish about Stadia, as they expect Google to give up and dump it, which may be why Google doesn't have more games available.

  35. Games are not bad but the thing that doesn't look interesting to me is that you need to buy each game full price apart from the monthly fee. That's insane to me.

  37. Agree, Bing and Cortana failed for the same reasons. Both were copies of already successful ideas/products/services. They offered nothing new and worth switching for. It was the same with Windows Phone.

  39. 8K recording, why? Most people don't even have 4K capable kit yet, let alone 8K. I saw an 8K TV the other day and it was £32,000!!. Plus, I recorded some video in 4K on my OnePlus phone on my recent holiday to Florida, and my Plex server couldn't even keep with with transcoding it to my Xbox without constant buffering. 8K is just an unnecessary expense right now, both in terms of camera cost, and also in storage usage. Spend the resources on the majority of people by improving 1080p and 4K to be as good as it can be, with great HDR and superb dark performance before moving on. Nobody needs 8K yet.

  44. Being first rather than following others and missing the boat helps too. Cortona was left behind on the island while Alexa and Google Assistant sailed off into the beautiful golden sunset. After all the coconuts ran out sunburnt weak and dehydrated Cortona was captured and taken away by the savage pigmy people where they sacrificed her and ate her flesh. Cortona’s decapitated head is now on a stick warning what becomes of companies with no imagination making me-too products that no one wants.

  46. And this Cortana integration will be US only as well. One day Microsoft will click and realise that if they want to lead the market, they have to be global. A staged US first rollout simply doesn’t work, but Microsoft doesn’t seem to understand. They’ve never given a concrete and legitimate reason as to why they fail at recognising this problem.

My only essential requirement for D4 is they need to make sets not-stupid. e.g. demon hunter getting +75,000% damage to impale is just lazy design. And I would really love some PROPER end-game content (see D2 Median) not this repetitive randomly reused dungeons.
