  3. Agile development is seriously one of the worst things that has ever happened to software. Gone of the days are proper QA and finishing features. Obviously no final release will ever be bug free, but with all the major players, it feels like I’ve been a perpetual beta for years. Beta purgatory. The whole yearly major release cycle just might not be cut out for everyone, especially when you have only 3 or so months of intense beta testing.

  5. PayPal is buying shopping and rewards platform Honey

Wow! That is an absolutely crazy valuation! 4 billion for a browser extension...am I missing something? Hey PayPal, you know Google owns the largest browser, right? You know Honey doesn't work on mobile because there's no browser extensions, right? At any time this extension could disappear due to browser updates or FTC complaints. Consumers don't realize Honey steals your data *despite their social team's comments*. As you shop and browse they have full transparency in to your shopping data and behavior. They use this data to sell expensive packages to advertisers. They also post A LOT of illegitimate coupons and never seem to have the best cash back rate available *they hide it with points vs %*, ie eBates vs Honey. Yes, it is easy to use, but are you getting the best deal? Be aware if you are a discount or cash back shopper! Brands don't realize they are being ripped off. Ever heard of cookie stuffing? Extensions are the number one offenders. You think you own your brand's direct traffic? Think again, Honey gets paid on it. Does you brand like double paying for paid media? Again, Honey gets paid on traffic you paid for. Plain and simple, Honey is stealing your brand's traffic, whether it's direct or paid. Good for Honey for pulling off the scam of the year!

  7. Twitter now lets anyone hide replies to their tweets

This is a move to censor than protect. Imagine politicians and corporations are allowed to post lies and people who reply with facts to them will be *censored* off. Twitter claims to be non political place and in reality they're becoming increasingly political

  8. New cortana app? Great, does this mean when this finally lands we'll be able to uninstall it and have no trace of cortana on windows 10 systems?

  9. Their original inability to push Cortana to more languages and countries from the get go is why it never really got used much. Though on that point, it's not like I bother to use any of the others out there. I've never touched the google assistant on my phone for example. On the shift to productivity. You know, this is the type of integration it should've had from the start, since it was going to be on desktop. It should've had skills for every MS service/app out there, from controlling windows fully through your commands to Office, to Edge and other things. And all of that should've been cross-linked, for lack of a better word, so you could for example tell it to take something from one app and send it to another app or service. Quick example is to have it save your word documents to OneDrive at the end of the day. Like setting a reminder it should be able to do a set task at a set time.

Hello, The following AMD support department knowledgebase article might be of interest to you: AMD Knowledgebase Article # PA-100, "Unable to Boot New Desktop System Configured with AMD 3rd Generation Ryzen™ Desktop Processor, and AMD Socket AM4 400-Series Motherboard" Basically, AMD will send you an older, compatible processor to use with the motherboard to flash its BIOS. You have to return the CPU to them, though after ten days, or you will be charged for it. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  16. Microsoft is testing Gmail integration in Outlook on the web

Just like how everyone also gets confused with Gmail.com and the Gmail App and email address that use Gmail.com. /s How would someone be confused between, joe@outlook.com and http://www.outlook.com" rel="external nofollow">http://www.outlook.com? Oh, I'm so confused, I thought your email was http://www.outlook.com...Does this really confuse you? Really? FFS No, when they say Gmail I instantly know they have a Gmail address. When someone says outlook sometimes they are talking about the issues they are having with the outlook client with their ISP's email address.

  17. Please admit you only keep informing people that you play modern AAA games using drivers from 2.5 years ago on a 10-year-old OS to wind people up. Windows 10 + the 44x.xx drivers will be better than Windows 7 + 378.78 in every modern AAA game on a GTX 1080 Ti. Grow up and stop being an old-fashioned, stubborn boy.

  19. [Mint] Switch Desktop Preferences Easily?

For them that are interested, a guy over at Linux Mint figured out where the script was going wrong. It requires the following at the beginning of the script: #!/bin/bash So for the full script: #!/bin/bash if [ $(gsettings get org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow slideshow-enabled) == "false" ] ; then gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow slideshow-enabled true gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow image-source "directory:///home/username/destination_folder" gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow delay 10 gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow random-order true else gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background.slideshow slideshow-enabled false gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background picture-uri "file:///home/username/path_to_image_blahblah.jpg" fi I've already asked about why that makes a difference to how the system interprets the script, but for now I have my wallpaper sorted! As I said in the thread, next up is dealing with the screensaver. But this is an awesome progression!

  25. Actually I hope the Surface Earbuds have separate communication from each piece to the device. This is in contrast to many wireless Bluetooth earbuds where there is one connection from one piece to the device and then that earpiece communicates with the other earpiece. There are multiple reasons I don't like this. For one, it means you can't choose which earpiece to use if you decide to wear only one. For another, it means you can't have much distance between the earpieces. This makes sense if one person wears both pieces. But my girlfriend likes to wear one and I wear the other while we're running so we can listen together but still talk to each other. The third reason is that smartwatches that communicate with wireless earbuds, the signal between the bt earpiece and the watch can break depending on which hand the watch is and which earpiece is being used and this is distance-dependent. One of the good things with airpods is that each earpiece has a bt signal with the device so the earpieces don't have to communicate with each other.

  31. New features listed on Microsoft Blog... I am starting become convinced that a majority of the people working on upper level Apps and features at Microsoft have little understanding of existing features or lower level OS functionality. None of the functions listed are different or new, with the exception of the 1:1 and join request. The only 'new' thing I can see in the skill integration to Teams and ancillary services.

  32. WhatsApp for Windows phones will shut down on December 31

This was reported here before now, this is an additional piece. Did you miss the original? Oh no, maybe your finger is off the pulse? I mean, look - why even come here and read the news articles if all you'll do is whine? Why not do better yourself, or did you just wanna be that guy? Yes, it was reported here more than 6 months ago, and now it's here again with nothing new added. Oh no, maybe your finger is off the pulse (of reading comprehension) The rest of your comment is like a textbook example of banal internet logical fallacies, no point in even addressing it. And yet address it you did. What's new to add? Is it wrong for Neowin to remind people of things? How very dare they! Just here to moan aren't you! Sad life...

"originally" lol. I've had plenty of android phones do this too. Which android phones had this feature built in before the Lumias? Absolutely loads! Sony had a couple. Heck it existed even before smartphones. Indeed, every other higher-end phone before smartphones had a dedicated camera button.

  35. Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19025 to the Slow ring

We really don't need a long list of features in each update though, that's why we had problems. I'd rather take all the fixes and other under the hood changes more frequently. There should be a long list of boring fixes and core updates that end users will never care about that you could read through though.

Great, I was hesitating to use Honey before, now that it's bought by a big corp, even less so. They not only want to know where you're doing final purchases through them, they also want to know where you're looking for things... Internet is turning really creepy...

  38. Microsoft is testing Gmail integration in Outlook on the web

Naming their web-based email service "Outlook" is such a HORRIBLE idea. If someone tells you "I use outlook for my email" .. .if you have to ask, The Email Client Outlook or you have an outlook.com email address?" you know you have a horrible name.

  39. I got absolutely inundated with robocalls on election night here in KY (it was a governor election). It was ridiculous. And the worst part is they were calling my direct cell phone # which I NEVER give to anyone - not even family. I only give my Google Voice number which still reaches my phone. I mainly do this because Google auto transcribes voicemails and I can listen to them from my PC - whereas direct call voicemails I have to dial a number, enter my phone number, enter pin number then go through a series of menu options before listening and deleting. Also about a dozen unsolicited SMSes pertaining to the election. Probably has something to do with me being registered as an independent. Both parties automatically assumes that makes me a 'swing voter.'

  40. Apple announces new green campus in Austin, Texas

While I applaud Apple for this plan, lets not kid ourselves. Building that facility (machinery, concrete, steel, interior materials etc.) is going to create far more carbon and waste then they will ever recoup with their green initiatives so while the plan is good intentioned, it's negative contributions to the environment are still overwhelming. I'd actually have preferred to hear they were using 60% recycled building products over 60% green space. Think about it, the location is already essentially 100% green space (its just land) so they are converting 100% green space into 60% and creating a lot of waste doing it.

  48. Apple launches 16-inch MacBook Pro with a new Magic keyboard

I know you're an apple fan, so am I! But when a product takes almost 4 years to be corrected, with numerous iterations in that period at ever increasing prices - it is a bit much to accuse people of whining! Apple takes their time with everything. Look at how long old products stay around without an update for example. New keyboards, new designs, working out why something failed and what do do about it also takes time. It was whining. I understand the reasons but it was still whining. I hope the whining stops now. Whining describes a sound. You literally live in a little apple bubble. Are you saying thats a problem? I don't actually understand what you are saying. Whats an Apple bubble please? What you are living in. And no, it wasn’t whining, it was legit complaining. Whining is a noise, correct. Can you hear whining noises that complaints make through the Internet? That’s a little concerning, if so.
