Hi everyone, Most of you will know me as the developer of audio player Dopamine. Today, I'd like to present another one of my applications: Knowte. Knowte was born in 2013, under a different name. Back then, it was called Note Studio. I created it because I needed a simple application to write and organize work notes. A great search functionality was also a must have. Today, I have more than 1000 notes in my work collection. Until recently, Knowte was a Windows-only application. That changed with Knowte 2.0, which was released a few weeks ago. Yesterday I released version 2.0.1 and thought it might be nice to present it here. This is a list of its features: - Creation of notes - Organize notes in notebooks - Group notebooks in collections (allows separating home and work notes for example) - Note formatting - Task lists - Search - Runs on Windows and Linux (theoretically it can run on Mac, but I don't have a Mac to build it for that platform) - Export to PDF - Note printing - Mark notes Knowte can be downloaded on GitHub: https://github.com/digimezzo/knowte-electron/releases Enjoy!3 points

I've only ever had very positive experiences with AirBNB. What's the issue? I suspect he's thinking about the impacts it has on rents. That's pretty much what it is, AirBnB has had a negative impact on people who look to just rent a place normally. It takes empty places off the market or owners in some cases try to get people to leave so they can turn around and put the place up on AirBnB. There's probably other issues I'm forgetting. as well I think if you own 2 or 3 places, yourself, and want to put the ones not in use on AirBnB then fine. But if you're a building owner who wants to turn their place into a hotel, well, you should have to jump through all the hoops and red tape a hotel owner has to.3 points -

Microsoft is blocking Windows 10 1903 and 1909 upgrades for some antivirus users
xendrome reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Perhaps you misunderstood, the issue is with a 3rd part AV app, not with the OS. But why? since the Antivirus worked on the last version of Windows 10, what have MS done to stop it working? i know Ms would love to get rid of third party antivirus Do you understand how code works? Do you understand how these AV product BYPASS the exposed APIs and instead use their own hooks into I/O streams? Microsoft simply adding a new single bit flag to an I/O stream would be UNKNOWN to these products, and they would break. Microsoft is good about compatibility, but they are not going to NOT add new features or optimized code JUST TO KEEP CRAP SOFTWARE WORKING - especially when it is doing CRAP it should NEVER be doing in the first place. Why? As someone said to me, allowing MS to defend your computer against viruses is like leaving a fox to guard a hen house. My trust in Ms is pretty low, I prefer to have something else there as well. Really? Do you think ANY company understands how Windows works better than Microsoft? ** Even just the storage I/O (which AV software tries to intercept) is extemely complex, which is why a lot of AV software mangles data, and prevents the OS from writing full information properly to an NTFS volume. I don't understand why people think that engineers that often don't even understand the basics of how Windows NT works, would think they are 'smarter' than Microsoft in identifying entry points and properly screening information. Even that aside, the automatic reporting of Defender provides Microsoft with millions of potential threats to assess, which is then automatically distributed to 800 million users instantly. There is no AV company that can do this, and that is if they aren't hijacking features, breaking Windows (see article above), or slowing down key system features like caching technologies and basic I/O. Finally, NTFS is not just a FS hierarchy, it is a set of technologies and services that can easily be mangled when a 3rd party hooks into the I/O, especially when they circumvent things like journaling and copy on write from working properly, as the NTFS services see the 'screened' data from the AV as non-secure/polluted. NTFS is robust, which is also why it is a really bad idea to allow OSX or Linux to have write access to NTFS volumes, as they almost always damage data structures, and Windows has to spend time fixing the data on its next boot. ** The 'security' myth/stories about Microsoft have been a dead horse for over 10 years. Do a bit of research from Vista to 10 on both bugs/exploit numbers, and also on infections. Nearly 95% of all Windows infections in the last 10 years were through 3rd party software, specifically - Chrome, Java, Flash, iTunes/Safari, Adobe. - Crap that many people continued to use and still use without a second thought of security. (Oh several AV tools were also responsible for a large chunk of infections, as some created new vulnerabilities, opened new entry points, and were not updated.1 point -

Remember when Cab drivers had to memorize maps and know by heart the fastest way to landmarks and specific areas before they could be a cab / taxi driver?... They still do to drive black cabs, Uber drivers rely on GPS which may not always give you best route. Also Uber should be treated like any other "taxi" company but like most tech companies they dont think the rules apply to them.1 point -
Exclusive: Microsoft is working to bring 64-bit Intel app emulation to Windows on ARM
domboy reacted to Gilfoyle for a topic
Lets be honest. Even if the X could emulate 64bit apps right now, how many people would want that? A 64bit app like Photoshop being emulated on this "ultra-portable" laptop is going to be a WAY less than stellar experience. The X is for the person that is a heavy user of Microsoft products, all of which are ported to ARM, including the new Edge. So a corporate worker looking for long battery life in a light form factor, that uses Office 365 and a web browser 98% of the time. The other 2% of the time they use some x86 app that is emulated.1 point -

The simple answer is that optimization doesn't typically happen until the Beta stages of a game. Having said that, it isn't okay for a company to hide behind the word "alpha" for years just so they have an excuse for not fixing bugs. Especially when they advertise the game as if it was a finished product.1 point -

Unless you are a heavy 3d designer and pushing Blender or Cinema 4D/Maya/Etc... The 8gb of RAM won't be your performance bottleneck. As I mentioned not long ago, we consulted with a partner doing upgrades for several 3D effects studios. They had users complaining that they didn't get more RAM, because their software and their personal performance tests weren't any different. These users had 8GB of RAM and were upgraded to 32GB. Most software dealing with multi gigabyte assets still have to stream them from the i/o with some caching that has saturation limits. So editing a 500GB video in Premiere is essentially the same speed on an 8GB machine, as it is on a 64GB machine, because everything is coming from the drive and going back to the drive. Right now, this same 'baseline rule' of 8GB also applies to gaming, and the latest games, with a less than 0.5% difference between an 8GB machine and a 32GB machine. (Hit up YouTube to see recent testing on this from people like Jayztwocents.) 8GB is more than enough in 2019; however, that doesn't mean you should limit your purchase. If you can get/afford more RAM, do it.1 point -

Windows 10 build 19025.1052 now available in the Slow ring with no changes
Nas reacted to CyberChief for a topic
Most everyday users dont need to rush to install updates -- besides some minor improvements there usually isnt anything else worth the rush. For developers needing API fixes and gamers needing component fixes, however, the updates are usually much more valuable. I was sort of surprised to see it had updated on it's own. I wasn't sure after I saw it had already gone to 1051. I just saw the posting about the 1052 build. I thought it odd for the build to increase by such a small increment and I have noticed a definite slow down of her machine with 1051 build. Apps and processes are definitely slower. Thanks for the reply and I will keep your suggestion in mind for future builds and updates.1 point -

The performance of x86 Photoshop would likely be tolerable if it correctly recognized the GPU, but apparently it falls back to software rendering, resulting in the choppy panning, scrolling, and zooming. This makes the experience feel clunkier than it should. It's likely an OpenGL issue. Not having modern OpenGL libraries for Adreno on Windows is an odd limitation. Not sure what Qualcomm is really thinking here.1 point -

Detroit Lions
restroom reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
A coach for the Detroit Lions was looking for the perfect quarterback he had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn’t find a quarterback who could ensure a Super Bowl win. Then one night while watching CNN he saw a war-zone scene in Syria. In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Syrian Muslim soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a 15th story window 100 yards away. KABOOM! He threw another hand-grenade 75 yards away, right into a chimney. KA-BLOOEY! Then he threw another at a passing car going 90 mph. BULLS-EYE! “I’ve got to get this guy!” The coach said to himself. “He has the perfect arm!” So, he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football. And the Lions go on to win the Super Bowl. The young Syrian is hailed as the great hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother. “Mom,” he says into the phone, “I just won the Super Bowl!” “I don’t want to talk to you,” the old Muslim woman says. “You deserted us. You are not my son!” “I don’t think you understand, Mother,” the young man pleads. “I’ve won the greatest sporting event in the world. I’m here among thousands of my adoring fans.” “No! Let me tell you!” his mother retorts. “At this very moment, there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn’t get raped!”1 point -
