This is now what Neowin has become? Someone joins an international tech site to ask about a local taxi service? Bet you a signed dollar that there’s a link incoming...

  7. Instagram will now warn users before they post something offensive

Ah yes...facebook/Instagram/twitter should have a say in what is morally correct... Trying to turn internet into a "safe space" is laughable at the very least.

  8. Been using a OnePlus 7 Pro with Snapdragon 855 and never felt the need for a faster SoC. Of course it's nice to for gaming and other edge cases to have a faster SoC, but for the majority the current gen is fast enough. The next generation should offer an option between performance or battery optimized SoC. I would like a phone that lasts 6-7 days on a charge instead of one beating all gaming benchmarks.

  9. Hands-on with the first TCL-branded smartphone, the TCL Plex

This is most certainly not TCL's first TCL branded phone. They've been selling phones in China under that brand for ages. First one outside of China maybe.

  12. It's a way to manage expectations, sort of. More than once, we expected features like Sets to ship in the next feature update, and it never happened. This should reduce the "X is no longer coming in Windows 10 version Y" headlines.

  13. This new change is a good one and explains why they did away with the skip ahead ring. Anyone on the fast ring will get all the new code and features they're working on. The exception here is that now that ring isn't tied to the next version anymore. It's a never ending beta, when the time comes they'll take whatever is good to go from it and fork that into 20H2 and then push it to the slow ring. Fast ring testers might end up testing a new feature that won't show up in a final version for a year or longer now. But this lets them testing bigger things for longer without having to ship it till it's ready.

  17. The Windows Phone Store shuts down today

The windows store should close as well. Of course closing it down would be an admission that windows 10 itself is a failure at getting users to embrace it, after all, windows 10 was built around the store in the first place. Ah well, glad to have options other than Microsoft.

  18. Top Gun Maverick (May 25, 2022)

Some notes, this second trailer gives us a bit more of the story. It looks like Maverick is a test pilot at the start of this, then gets ordered back to top gun to be a instructor. Then it probably follows along the same lines the original did, with the character interactions and growth being the point of it all, not so much some big deep plot. We'll see though, I'm going to see this for sure.

  19. " It’s backwards compatible with all Xbox accessories and games" This may need more clarification. So I can play ANY XBOX/360/1/ game in this console? Amazing if true and I may be a day 1 purchaser.

  21. The 4x the power is likely based on the cpu alone, on the gpu, it's not going to be 4x the power of the One X lol, if they are lucky, maybe double the power but even that might be pushing it It's all about the cpu, that's what they will focus on as that is the biggest upgrade over what this gen has got. Still, it will be interesting to see how much power it will have but I would hope it's got more than 16GB of memory because that seems a bit low considering 3GB of that is likely tied up by the OS and the rest of the memory is shared as system and gpu memory, it looks quite low then when you consider how cheap memory is getting now. The Xbox 360 had 8x the RAM of the Xbox, the Xbox One had 16x the RAM of the 360, so the new one has to have 32x the RAM of the One making a total of 256GB right? :P But yeah only doubling the RAM doesn't sound like enough especially if they're serious about 8k games. 32GB seems unlikely but to be fair, memory prices are dropping in price now and I got 32GB for me PC a few months ago for how cheap it was going for. Anyway, 16GB seems low, I have 40GB in total on my PC, 32 system memory and 8GB gpu memory, I think the next gen of consoles could go for something like 24GB of memory, that would be a worthwhile upgrade over the One X which is already 12GB, having 16GB seems quite low to me when they are going to push better visuals and higher resolutions. On the other hand, having fast M2/SSD performance could change how games are designed, if they can stream contents in and out of memory fast enough, might not need as much memory, same would be the case for the PC version of the same games. I'll be interesting to see what the much faster storage and cpu power can do for games.

  24. Nox App Player 6.5.0.3

Don't download this. One of the worst pieces of software that sideloads a whole bunch of bloatware. It is so hard to uninstall. You basically have to scorched earth your ROM to get rid of it.

  30. Most probably do, I think this is more for families with kids who want to play different games and have ADD and jump between games/apps like crazy. It's like each new generation has shorter attention spans and less patience. I sometimes play multiplayer/coop stuff which isn't really fun by yourself so if my frinds jump on and want to play Destiny 2 it would be excellent.

  32. Xbox Series X One X Xtra Xtreme XXX Xperience Edition Maybe we should wait for the Gen X Edition with free Dew and Doritos hah You must be referring to the original Xbox's release events... they also had taco bell, and it was 2-3 days of non-stop game play. (I remember, I worked at the NYC one!)

  37. Cool in a way but I still think it looks too busy. Especially on the tile backgrounds. If you have a blue gradient icon on a blue tile, it just gets completely lost. So they have to think about the start menu/ start screen design and how it meshes with the icons. Also, what I really wish they would do is move to vector-based icons, that could go from color to monotone. They already have a system for doing this, that they've used for emoji and toolbar icons, through the multi0color font standard in OpenType.
