They've always had the worst, most confusing naming scheme for their console. Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox again? Why couldn't they just name them Xbox 2, 3 and 4? It would make so much more sense. Now they are making it even more confusing with this Series stuff.7 points -

It's fairly obvious why they made that decision. The same people who permanently disable it (meaning those who don't know what they're really doing) are the same people who then complain about malware on Windows. Antivirus software is just a placebo effect. This program right here shows it perfectly. You see a green picture with a checkmark on it - everything is nice and dandy. You see a yellow picture with an exclamation mark on it - you better eat your vegetables or the Boogeyman will get you when you go to sleep! You see a red picture with an X on it - that's it man, end of the road, you might as well jump off the roof at that point. The only thing important is how one person uses their computer and access the internet, if they click on suspicious things and download and run/install whatever, they will get viruses. They need proper education and do some thinking rather than some automated stupid tool (that alters for false positives 99% of the time, as part of the placebo effect) to do the thinking for them. I haven't used an antivirus since around 2009 or 2010 and never had a virus since then. Great for you. Not ideal for your average user though.2 points -

While they might not flat out pull the older models out of stores come holiday 2020, they're going to be very limited. In my opinion it makes sense for them to quickly move to kill the lower end Xbox One S models to clear stock and make room for the new stuff. I'd expect to see the older One S/X moved to the back while the Series X and maybe S are front and center as you walk into the shops. With the word "NEW" plastered all around. Plus this thing looks radically different and will cost at least $100 more than the One X.2 points -

I thought the fact they used "series" in the branding made it clear they're going to release more than one version again, and maybe right from day 1 so they can attack sony at the high end performance wise and at the low end on price. I have to wonder if it would have been better to name it Xbox : X Series, instead of Series X? Flipping it might have been better. In the long run though I figure they expect the conversation to go along the lines of. Friend A: "just got the new Xbox." Friend B: "Which one?" Friend A: "Series X." Or Series S, or just call it X or S or whatever other letter they use. In the future they'll just keep it going and say the Series X2, X3...2 points -

Disagree. If all people are gonna do is post derogatory comments, Instagram is well within their right to at least curb some of that junk. Think about it: we get along pretty well on Neowin as it stands without having to call people names. Such posts are just low quality/effort trash to read, let alone store somewhere indefinitely. If YouTube did the same, maybe it wouldn't be such a cesspool. None of this would take away from one's ability to call someone out either as far as I can tell. I'm still very much in favor of people being able to voice their opinion on a public platform.2 points -

I don't think it's too confusing, fast ring is an endless beta, while slow ring becomes more important, as does release preview. That's a good thing. Adding 10X as being a different version might throw people off but it's device specific for now so it doesn't really matter. Besides I fully expect most, if not all of the stuff they add in for 10X to find it's way to 10 at some point.1 point -

Microsoft unveils the Xbox Series X console, its next-generation Xbox, at The Game Awards
Geezy reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
The 4x the power is likely based on the cpu alone, on the gpu, it's not going to be 4x the power of the One X lol, if they are lucky, maybe double the power but even that might be pushing it It's all about the cpu, that's what they will focus on as that is the biggest upgrade over what this gen has got. Still, it will be interesting to see how much power it will have but I would hope it's got more than 16GB of memory because that seems a bit low considering 3GB of that is likely tied up by the OS and the rest of the memory is shared as system and gpu memory, it looks quite low then when you consider how cheap memory is getting now. The Xbox 360 had 8x the RAM of the Xbox, the Xbox One had 16x the RAM of the 360, so the new one has to have 32x the RAM of the One making a total of 256GB right? :P But yeah only doubling the RAM doesn't sound like enough especially if they're serious about 8k games. 32GB seems unlikely but to be fair, memory prices are dropping in price now and I got 32GB for me PC a few months ago for how cheap it was going for. Anyway, 16GB seems low, I have 40GB in total on my PC, 32 system memory and 8GB gpu memory, I think the next gen of consoles could go for something like 24GB of memory, that would be a worthwhile upgrade over the One X which is already 12GB, having 16GB seems quite low to me when they are going to push better visuals and higher resolutions. On the other hand, having fast M2/SSD performance could change how games are designed, if they can stream contents in and out of memory fast enough, might not need as much memory, same would be the case for the PC version of the same games. I'll be interesting to see what the much faster storage and cpu power can do for games. If it's sharing the RAM with the GPU and they take a good chunk with the OS and always-on video capture/streaming capability and whatever else is going on then 16GB will be on the small side for sure. True, if we just look at it from how PC games use the hardware, games can use around 6GB to 8GB even at 1080p, then throw in vram which can use around 4GB to 6GB at 1080p. With consoles, you have about 2GB or 3GB locked down by the OS, then what's left is shared from system and video memory and considering they are going to be native 4k and gamers are expecting games to be better and bigger next gen, 16GB seems quite low to me. 24GB is the minimum to me but there is an unknown with storage speed, if that works out well enough where games that shift information from the hard drive to memory, fast and on the fly, games might not need as much memory as we are used too because games could stream contents as you play. Still, I get the feeling that if it is 16GB, that is going to be the biggest weakness of the next gen of consoles, more so with how cheap memory is getting on the PC.1 point -
