  1. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

This is a good time to remind people why Thunderbolt 3.0 is NOT viable for eGPU configurations; as the total bandwidth caps is under 5000MBs. This is why the NVidia 1060 and AMD 580 class GPUs of last generation are the upper end without being crippled too much from bandwidth limitations of Thunderbolt 3. This is also why eGPU solutions from major brands like Apple, top out at this class of GPU. So stop buying Thunderbolt devices with the idea you are 'future proofing' or planning on running an eGPU with your device. Instead, shove the money at a cheap desktop with a faster GPU, and use it for external rendering or for playing games. A faster notebook with a dedicated GPU is also a better solution.

so did AMD make this an 8 lane card just to push their CPU's? could of just made it a 16 lane card

  3. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

Kind of missing the point, this card is ONLY using 8 lanes, and is saturating; why isn't it using the 16 lanes provided? Back to your comment, it does demonstrate the limitations of 8 lane PCIe 3.0 speeds in generational context, and PCIe 4.0 is needed.

  11. While they might not flat out pull the older models out of stores come holiday 2020, they're going to be very limited. In my opinion it makes sense for them to quickly move to kill the lower end Xbox One S models to clear stock and make room for the new stuff. I'd expect to see the older One S/X moved to the back while the Series X and maybe S are front and center as you walk into the shops. With the word "NEW" plastered all around. Plus this thing looks radically different and will cost at least $100 more than the One X. Removing inventory makes no sense! This isn't car buying, there isn't a real physical inventory limitation where older-year models impede sales of newer-year models. If people say they need "lower end" models, then One X/S are the lower-end models... and the Series X/Y/Z are the higher-end models. Easier to correlate: "One" is "level 1" and "Series" is "level UP!" We're not talking about people who actually follow these things and know the different subdivisions and models. We're talking about regular people, in one of the busiest sales periods of the year, going to buy "the Xbox X". But which X? The One X? The Series X? Don't you think these are going to be confused to hell and back? They seemed to do just fine with X, XR, XS, Pro, and Pro Max. Again, there is a lot of inventing a problem to discuss a solution. There's a difference between buying for yourself vs. buying for others. Any guy who's walked into Ulta or Sephora can probably attest to that lol. That being said, Jimmy Fallon mistaking the Wii U as an accessory on his show is a perfect example of parents who aren't informed on the tech, with the tech being named poorly on top of that. Apple's the "NEW" iPad or Nintendo's the "NEW" 3DS are great examples of garbage naming schemes, which is why I think many of us don't want Microsoft to fall short due to naming conventions. It's just a poor marketing strategy that doesn't benefit them I guess is the point many of us are making. Your perception of the marketing strategy ("poor") is exactly their perception of a GREAT marketing strategy! (Hint: follow the $$) Truth be told, you have a particular appetite and expectation of your preferred marketing and product strategies. We all do. But the business objectives for these major companies is not to create the perception of a cluttered marketplace! So they purposefully update product generations "in-place" to avoid generational distinctions to even enter the overall mind. In other words, product generations are not always earth-shatteringly different but they do individually provide distinct advances (larger screen, more storage, new hw feature) whilst the software experience is managed separately (via OS updates). In the big tech's views, they're following Intel's old "Tic-Toc" release schedules between hardware and software upgrades -- but across generations, they're more or less similar (wifi, bluetooth, browser) so just calling things the "2019 iPad" is easier for John Doe's to think about instead of "iPad 2019 XYZ 128GB LTE." I get all of that, but the problem is when people assume the product is just a minor side-grade or accessory, as seen with the Wii U. Either way, it won't matter until we actually know the naming scheme they'll use alongside "Series" so it's fruitless arguing about it. I just want them to succeed so that Sony has more pressure on them for healthy competition.

  14. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

Replying to myself after readying more...that is only an Intel limitation IF the mobo does not offer dedicated M.2. I am guessing most Intel boards don't so that all 16 lanes can be used by the GPU. It hasn't been until recently that connecting storage to the chipset is becoming more and more of a bad idea.

  15. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

Read past the headline, there is an explanation...the card uses more bandwidth than higher end cards due to its low amount of VRAM.

Back to your comment, it does demonstrate the limitations of 8 lane PCIe 3.0 speeds in generational context, and PCIe 4.0 is needed. Artificial limitations. I know that my RX 460 for example only has half the pins, so can only work on 8x Responding to everyone. I imagine the 8 lane configuration is a cost cutting measure. 8 lanes at PCIe 3.0 is fine in most cases, unless the VRAM isn't enough, which by today's standards, 4 GB is light. You can't exactly compare an RX 460 to a 5500 XT, they have very different specs and what is a bottleneck for one may not be a bottleneck for the other. Plus, it is not possible to test the RX 460 on PCIe 4.0, so saying it is fine may be a true statement, but you have no way of knowing if more bandwidth would make it better.

  19. Non gamers and non techies will have a problem. They get models and even brands confused so easily. "Is this the latest one? Is this the top of the line? Does it have [buzzword]?" hopefully geek squad will help them. Well it will be plastered all over the TV and ads, so there's no reason to believe people will get it confused. Was it an issue for Xbox One? How about the Nintendo products? Most products don't use a numerical progression, so I doubt it'll magically be an issue for the Xbox. Plus it's pretty common sense going by price alone. The Xbox One wasn't sold at retail shops next to the original Xbox. The Xbox One X will likely be sold next to the Xbox Series X, which is problematic. While I do believe it's the parents responsibility to figure it out, the whole point of a marketing department is to make the product clear and distinct in terms of what they're looking for. The Xbox Series X already has a sharp look to it, but if the name doesn't hold up, expect people to be either confused or assume they already have the Xbox One X, not recognizing the difference. Ultimately, it's a wait and see thing, if "Series X" isn't actually the name.

  21. That would put Verizon clean out of business. That is not even remotely true. For a very long time, Verizon didn't even lock their phones, even those sold under contract. Verizon may not physically lock their devices anymore but most of their devices only have radios to support the CDMA/LTE frequencies so there's very few other carriers you can take their phones to anyway... So in a way it's just as bad if not worse the way they operate Unless the phone has a little known technology called LTE, then by necessity, it also supports GSM carriers. Not to mention in the iPhone space, all Verizon iPhone have always also supported GSM. yeah some like iPhone have started supporting the major GSM frequencies but the majority of devices on Verizon the last I checked still only support the Verizon range of frequencies.

That's not really expensive for a new game. It's actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Little indie games on Steam go for more than that sometimes. New games today are cheaper than they've ever been. I still remember my parents paying $50 for a new Colecovision game in the early 80s, which adjusted for inflation is about $140 today. It's not a new game?

People thought the U was just a tablet you buy to play your Wii off-screen. I'm sure people are confused by the different models of One right now, Microsoft even has a quiz on their site to help you determine which model is right for you and there are dozens of articles about "which Xbox One should I buy?", detailing the One, One w/o Kinect, One S, One Elite, One SAD, One X, and going the All Access route. Throw the Series X in the mix with a similar color scheme and controller and I'm sure it's confusing for that group.

Like, I didn't mind at first when it was announced, but this just makes it sound way more convoluted than it needs to be, especially when you factor in the Xbox One X vs. Xbox Series X. 36. It’s been like this since day one. Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One S and X, and now Series X. So the device type/branding is Xbox and the model is whatever version of device. Only the very first one had no version. It’s not any different than Windows. Not sure why people are confused now. The playstation was called playstation, then as the PSX and PS2 came out it was referred to as playstation 1. Xbox 1 - is that the first xbox or the third? The first Xbox was never called Xbox 1. So you are inventing confusion here. the original model is never called a 1 but generally gets referred to as such with future generations. the original PlayStation was never referred to as PS1 until further generations either ...

  42. Rumored to be $1500. This is likely due to the internal screen being foldable, however, makes it DOA for most people. I really wish I could understand the need/want for a foldable screen on a mobile device. I just don't understand the purpose or why anyone would want to fold/bend their screen. No one want's to fold/bend their screen! It's about the form factor and what the bendable screen allows. If there was a way to have a seamless large display that is somehow stored in a more compact format, then we'd go down that path, but right now the flexible screens are the tech that allows us this expansion of screen size. Not for me, if anything I want something smaller back to yesteryear of the 4" phones! Valid point indeed which just adds to the price tag which is unnecessary IMO.
