  1. That doesn't really stack up. You ship to those who got in first on the date you said you would. Something fishy here.

  2. Write to W3C standards and there are no issues. Or at least ask the browser what features it supports before using something. Writing anything to any specific browser since 2010 is foolish and not necessary outside of very extreme cases. Sadly, too many developers think Chrome and Safari are the 'standards' to support, instead of real standards. 2000-2010 - Microsoft needs to stick closer to standards and stop implementing additional features. 2010-2019 - Microsoft is forcing standards, instead of supporting beta features and proposals from Google. They really can't win, and that is why they stopped.

  5. I was anti Apple for lots of reasons then because I am a grown up now I decided to see what all the fuss was about and BANG my life is now better because I jumped right into the Apple ecosystem and got all their stuff. For me all my Apple stuff just works like it says it will on the box. No more comparing specs and taking risks and trying to get a bargain. My life is better, I am happier.

  7. That seems a little unlikely. The power required for satallite communication is huge, not piratical for a mobile device. That is why satellite phones are 1990's sized and have a battery life of less than an hour. Even if they could overcome that technical challenge, isn't this the same thing Elon Musk is trying to do? Are there really enough customers needing this to justify two competing systems? Any smartphone can communicate with satellite thru local antennas... What in hell are u talking about? That is not true at all. Smartphones communicate with terrestrial towers, not satellites. The only satellite communication on a smartphone is GPS, which is receive only, so no transmit power needed from the phone.

  8. I'm leery of anything Apple. They're arrogant and their cost for products is exponential. There are too many red lights going off in my conscious to even get started with them. Why I would likened that to having a relationship with Jack the Ripper... too many dark alleys and too many sharp knives. Besides, I don't feel like being raped by a company today.

why are you so mad? you need a life No anger in anything I said. I’ve been laughing at Stadia since it was announced and continue to do so . if that makes you happy by saying you are not angry with a smiley, sure. but we all know inside you are just angry because your favorite console have an additional competitor. what is it? is it xbox or PS or Nintendo? I don't even play games anymore and I've been laughing at Stadia since they announced it too... there is just too many issues, their ideas to combat latency is ridiculous using machine learning to predict what you will do... might as well have the game play for you (not sure if they implemented that one yet or not)... am I angry too?... streaming gaming just isn't ready yet, I've been laughing at the idea since it first showed up years ago on other services because we just aren't there yet... until everyone has fiber internet with <5ms latency it will never be the same as local gaming you better laugh at microsoft too because they are the worst with streaming and Stadia is miles better. we never know people are angry from the inside because its not their fav console and i laugh at them seeing how pathetic people have become. "Miles better", I'm not big on streaming either but where did you get that idea exactly? I've only seen loads of positive posts about xCloud compared to Stadia. And at least with MS it's a 3rd option along with traditional buying and game pass which keeps getting better and better as time passes.

Primary workstation. Running off a Brix Pro. (i7 4770R, 16GB Ram 512 m.2 SSD) I'd love to build a new PC for it, but I just can't justify it. Other than the loud fan when the CPU is taxed, that's the only issue I have with it. It does everything I need.

I am at MS too because streaming is not there yet and the infrastructure is not there yet to get it to the average person.. i only mentioned stadia, because this is a google topic not MS..yeah it's great they are trying but doesn't mean I can't laugh at the quality and play-ability along with the lack luster game libraries so far dont feel offended because i wasnt even talking to you. if you are not angry good for you but others are pathetic and angry and thats shows Why are you taking such offense to that? Do you work on the stadia engineering team? Also, you don't really have new console competition. Correct me if I am wrong.. but stadia is simply streaming games already available for PC or the other consoles. I am sure it would be a long long time before there are "stadia exclusives" and actually give reason to not just play the game locally.

The sooner this fails the better. Preferably leaving a crater sized loss of money so the idea doesn't come up for at least another 10 years. If this takes off it will be the end of perpetual game ownership and having the freedom to play when you want, how you want, and for however long you want. And preservation will be a thing of the past. So imagine Game A, A Stadia exclusive, is available for only 5 years. So 6 years later you have a hankering to play Game A. But you can't - all because the majority bought into Stadia and didn't care about the long term consequences of playing games in such a strict walled garden where content can be whisked away or heavily altered (censorship, removal of music to avoid paying further royalties, etc) without warning. So all you're left with to scratch that itch is watching old Twitch or YouTube playthrough videos. Compare that with some NES game you spent playing in your childhood. Now - over 3 decades later you can still play those in a myriad of ways because the content was stored on some media that could be copied and preserved. Preservation of games should not be yet another thing sacrificed at the altar of instant gratification and convenience. I hope this fails so spectacularly that it makes any investor laugh at the prospect of ever investing in another attempt again. Efforts should instead focus on things like Steam Link and similar - where the consumer has the local copy of the game data and streams it from a device that they are in control of and thus the consumer is the arbiter of content availability. The only thing that makes this possible end of days regarding preservation palatable is that I find the vast majority of AAA games to be garbage. And indie developers will likely still release things that you play locally (or stream from a device or server you control). This is one time I am glad the internet infrastructure in the U.S. is in such a horrid state that many people are still subject to data caps. That is a safeguard against this getting popular enough to make PC gaming and local play game consoles no longer profitable. With walled garden video and music streaming services preservation is still possible as the content can be captured -- usually bit for bit. But that isn't going to be possible with games that are exclusive to corporate-controlled server based streaming. Perhaps if they guaranteed to release a local copy of exclusive games once they are removed from their service it would be more acceptable. But I wouldn't trust any public traded corporation to adhere to such a promise.

  19. Yea, but if you're worried about key ... just don't enter it. Unlike previous Windows ... you could enter a product key and have a grace period to activate (if I recall correctly). With Windows 10 ... when you enter the product key it wants to activate then. So yea, just run it without a product key ... you won't have any limitations with respect to hardware, drivers, etc. giving you the chance to make sure everything works. Just some small limitations with regards to customizing.

  20. Ah so i'm good so long as i don't actually click to activate it? That's where the problem will arise? I only really want to do this to see if my old hardware will 'get along' with Windows 10 or whether it'll throw up some compatibility issues. I don't want to go through the whole upgrading process for real only to find there's issues. Sure i could backup and revert back to Windows 7 but when i've a spare drive why go through that hassle?

  21. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

No, I think they did it to save money. The extra copper needed to hold up the signal integrity for it to run PCI-E 4.0 at x16 adds layers to the PCB and complexity to the signal wiring.

In other words ... the spacecraft wasn't lost ... it's just in the incorrect orbit. You must be fun at parties! Depends on how many beers I've had. Was "RIP" a joke ... thought maybe Peresvet hadn't read the article and assumed it was lost. I would have chucked at something like it was "Starliners time to fail ..." or "Boeing set the clock back on U.S. human space travel" ... or something more clever. RIP ... kinda weak.

  25. You are not wrong, Apple's primary goal is to convince users to pay for their overpriced products. They start with style and pop-culture, but once they have you, they use their highly propriety ecosystem to force you to buy more. They limit or flat-out block interoperability with open standards and frequently prevent customers from using popular features just because Apple hasn't yet brought them to market (typically with a "first in the world to make something this amazing" kind of arrogant statement.) Having said that, if you think Google is somehow the good guy in this industry, you are incredibly bias. Both companies play dirty and use their market power to extract more revenue. High-end android products are equally overpriced (if you try to say they are worth it, see my bias comment), and Google has a history of bullying over companies to get their way, and punishing consumers who buy competing products with poor compatibility. Google also tends to be far worse than Apple when it comes to safeguarding their customer's data.

  33. Crew Dragon: In-Flight Abort test flight

I completely agree but NASA made the certification process so expensive, requiring several orbital test launches and reentries, SpaceX decided to put those funds into Starship. Background, When SpaceX proposed propulsive landings in the 2011 concept video NASA never thought SpaceX would follow through. Next thing NASA knows Crew Dragon is doing hover tests & landing boosters and it's "OH, S**T! They're actually going to do it!!." In comes the expensive test program to "discourage" SpaceX from using propulsive in Commercial Crew. NASA got the desired result, but now SpaceX is far more willing to develop Starship and future vehicles without NASA strings. They'll do like Falcon Heavy; develop it, fly it publicly with a big splash - gathering tons of telemetry, then slap it on the table and take orders.

  35. No matter how many times I’ve made new Edge the default browser, Windows will change it back to legacy Edge every couple of days. Same with changing my default mail app to Windows Mail when I’ve set Outlook as default. This issue has never been fixed since Windows 10 was released. I don’t believe there is currently any registry hack that will prevent this either.

  36. And there generally IS reason to run multiple browsers - even in platforms that aren't Windows - at the same time; I'd do it on *Android 10* if it were possible! (Windows has LONG permitted running multiple browsers at once - back before tabbed browsing, in fact; tabbed browsing did not make this capability go away. I still USE this capability, often due to how different browsers do different things - even, if not especially, due to how they implement those "web standards".)

  40. Samsung's foldable clamshell phone leaks in photos

Golly gee! Smartphone companies have finally started to realize that the "size war" has gotten totally out of control. When was the last time one could easily and safely put a smartphone in one's pants pocket? Samsung's decision to not mimic Motorola's dubious quick view feature was correct. Perhaps Samsung should also consider reducing the number of cameras and come out with a less expensive phone. (Really...who really needs three cameras on a phone? If one want to do "serious" photography, buy an actual camera.)

  41. PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance

This is a good time to remind people why Thunderbolt 3.0 is NOT viable for eGPU configurations; as the total bandwidth caps is under 5000MBs. This is why the NVidia 1060 and AMD 580 class GPUs of last generation are the upper end without being crippled too much from bandwidth limitations of Thunderbolt 3. This is also why eGPU solutions from major brands like Apple, top out at this class of GPU. So stop buying Thunderbolt devices with the idea you are 'future proofing' or planning on running an eGPU with your device. Instead, shove the money at a cheap desktop with a faster GPU, and use it for external rendering or for playing games. A faster notebook with a dedicated GPU is also a better solution.

  45. I thought the fact they used "series" in the branding made it clear they're going to release more than one version again, and maybe right from day 1 so they can attack sony at the high end performance wise and at the low end on price. I have to wonder if it would have been better to name it Xbox : X Series, instead of Series X? Flipping it might have been better. In the long run though I figure they expect the conversation to go along the lines of. Friend A: "just got the new Xbox." Friend B: "Which one?" Friend A: "Series X." Or Series S, or just call it X or S or whatever other letter they use. In the future they'll just keep it going and say the Series X2, X3...

  48. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

So another perspective... I (like many) grew up with Star Wars. Darth Vader was part of my childhood and while I wasn’t the biggest fan of the prequels, I still loved the Universe it was all set in. I was into the non-canon books, the comics, the tv shows... I was very much excited by anything Star Wars. Personally, I enjoyed The Force Awakens. I can see why people call it a rehash but I still enjoyed it. I was astounded by Rogue One too. So The Last Jedi... damn. It made me so annoyed upon first watching. I was really unimpressed by the pandering, the childish story, the nonsensical plot and the very obviously unnecessary set pieces. I contemplated skipping Solo but eventually saw it. Hey, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great and didn’t satisfy me but it wasn’t “bad”. But by that point I had fully turned off to Star Wars. So last month I was in Disney World. I went to the newly opened Galaxy’s Edge with an attitude of “Ride the ride and look around”. Wow, they’ve done something special there! It has a story, it has a narrative that you are part of and can’t help but engage with. The ride is good (not great) but I feel the ultimate triumph of the land is not that. You don’t feel like you’re in Florida. You don’t feel like you’re even in Disney World, or even a themed land. You feel like you’re part of the story - it’s been done so well (obviously if you engage with it). Off the back of this, I feel fully back into Star Wars and am going to pretend The Last a Jedi never happened!
