  2. Android 11 may finally let you record videos over 4GB

exFAT has been supported by Android for years, nothing new. The limitation this article refers to has nothing to do with a 4GB file limitation due to the filesystem used by Android, as there is no 4GB file limitation in Android, but it is solely talking about the MPEG4Writer libraries which till now, only can produce files up to 4GB, due to the 32-bit pointer the libraries use. But again, of course you can store files up to sizes of 512TB on basically any Android device.

Or at least gives you more capacity options rather than pointing to the cloud as a solution to not having capacity lol.

  4. Microsoft patent has Cortana providing insights on your messages

How about they bring half the capability from Cortana on Windows Phone to android? For example, the ability to read and respond to SMS messages, then focus on rubbish like this. At some point they need to stop spinning their wheels releasing crap and get back to the Microsoft of old; one that produces compelling software, rather than this half-baked garbage they turn out these days. Based on that picture, it utilises a smart device as the conduit for this "assistance" (which they had and abandoned). Seriously though, does anyone honestly care about Cortana anymore? When the Boxing Day sales are flogging Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices, nobody is going to buy into this crap. Nobody cares. They killed it themselves by doing what they do best; put in an initial wave of effort, then stop, then wonder why nobody uses it, then dump it instead of persisting. The other thing they do oh so well: make it US exclusive.

  6. That's kind of the funny thing about it though, is anyone really using it to record content? Or even photography for that matter? Previous generations never had anything good enough to warrant using it for any "pro"-fessional manner. Maybe more people are asking for it than I thought, but of all the options out there (for the money), not sure this is the one.

I see! So the file size doesn't limit video duration nor bitrate or high frame rate like 60 fps because of multiple chunks? That's good to know.

  9. Can't boot to Windows 7 normally but can still access it.

Hello, I have never used an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard before, but I note that each drive being displayed in the BIOS (UEFI) firmware is prefaced with "IDE:". Is this normal behavior, or should the drives be displayed as "SATA", instead? If not, perhaps changing the drive interface type from IDE to SATA (or AHCI or something similar) will resolve the issue. If that does not make any difference, then it could be that the failed/missing drive is the one that contains the boot loader. If you are unsure of which drive contained the actual boot loader for the operating systems on them, try disconnecting all the drives, then connecting them one at a time to see which ones load an operating system, display a boot loader error, or display a hardware error (no boot loader found at all). Also, given that this is a ten-year-old system, you may wish to make sure the CR-2032 CMOS/RTC backup battery has been replaced. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  10. Breakfast of Champions

A married man arrives very drunk to his home, he hardly makes it into his house after making a mess... in the morning he wakes up with a "breakfast for champions" in front of him, and he is like... what???... He looks down to his in-bed breakfast and sees waffles, scrambled eggs with bacon, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, an ice cold beer, a couple of aspirins, and a note that simply says "love you". He stumbles outside the room and sees broken glass, a broken lamp, mud (or vomit) in the carpet, half the clothes he was wearing the day before stinking of alcohol and cigarette laying in the floor... he has no idea what happened, so he calls for his son. "where is your mom?" He asks. "she went to the store to get a new door lock" The kid answers. "OK... do you know what happened yesterday?" "i sure do" says the kid; "you came home at around 5am drunk off your mind, you parked the car in the front lawn, after doing a couple of doughnuts on the front lawn with the car, then, you couldn't fit the key on the front door, and started knocking the door really hard and yelling for us to open, waking the neighbors that where still not awake because of the car parking, but you didn't wait for us, so you ended up kicking open the door after failing to force your way in..." "...afterwards, you stumbled into the table at the entrance breaking the lamp grandma left mom before she passed away..." "...after that, you tried to go up the stairs, and knocked off the wall most of the framed pictures we had hanging, that's when you vomited all over yourself." "So, what happened then?" asked the still hung over man. "Me and mom reached you half way up the stairs and understood you couldn't be talked to, so we dragged you up the stairs, by then you where trying to undress yourself, but couldn't really do it. You only got half your shirt off so mom unbuttoned the rest and then reached for your pants..." "And then what happened????" "Well, mom was trying to take your vomit soaked pants off when you very strongly pushed her aside, and yelled,

  12. I can't tell if this is sarcasm or a joke. Hope it's either one for your sake. While I was being facetious with my comment to Elon (since this money is contingent upon remaining in China), I wasn't when it comes to pointing out that the Chinese economy is slowing down dramatically (a 30 year low) following its third major bank collapse in as many months. Along with their dramatically declining labor force, the replacement of their "middle class" with automated factory manufacturing by the millions, its notoriously unbalanced economy, and its outsized credit bubbles, China's long term economic performance has now formally entered a dramatic downturn that few expect it to ever meaningfully recover from. Perhaps you weren't aware of any of this when I made my joke?

You have to take your Tesla car back to where your purchase for any repairs. Scotty Kilmer is the god of automobiles. 52 years of experience. I learned from that master.

  15. Why not both? Integrate it into Windows, *and* let people disable it and do things manually as well. Software is supposed to be customizable and cater to the user's needs. The idea of making a one size fits all solution is a fool's errand. No wonder there are vocal groups of any kind if this is their approach. Regrettably, Microsoft chose to ignore "The idea of making a one size fits all solution is a fool's errand." in its design and implementation of Windows-10.

  21. Should I upgrade my rig or stick with it?

I wouldn't spend money on an extra 16GB. It won't help with your frame rate and you'll be tossing the RAM when you decide to upgrade the entire system. With respect to the cooler ... kinda depends on what you have now. If you have the stock cooler ... sure. However, you can take the AIO with you when you decide to upgrade so it wouldn't be a temp solution. Overclocking may help...but just maybe a couple of fps. I would still just hold off and wait to see what Nvidia has coming in 2020. Are you trying to game everything at 4K?

  25. IPv4 4th-octet question

Possible - as mentioned, possible you have to look it up... ISP normally have much larger blocks then single /24 So yeah your 72, 73 prob the same ISP.. As stated look it up with simple whois. Your example inetnum: 182.56.0.0 - 182.59.255.255 netname: MTNL descr: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited country: IN That is a big chunk, all the same company!! As to your question which octet would it seem obvious they are different ISP.. Well if the 1st is different, 182, and say 185 I would assume they are different... But you really need to check to see who owns what, its possible that same ISP owns more than 1 /8, etc. Or chucks of /8 where the first octet is there for big chunks of the /8 NetRange: 24.0.0.0 - 24.15.255.255 CIDR: 24.0.0.0/12 And NetRange: 24.16.0.0 - 24.23.255.255 CIDR: 24.16.0.0/13 Both owned by comcast... They also own the 73/8 etc. etc. You really need to check to see...

  26. IPv4 4th-octet question

Hello, You can always try running nslookup to determine the fully-qualified domain name returned for the IP address, if any. Another option would be to check the IP address block assignment with APNIC, ARIN, RIPE or other provider to see whom the block of IP addresses is registered. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  28. If so, I haven't really noticed any leaps or long strides. Too often when I ask a question, Cortana defaults to the "According to _web search result_" reads a paragraph from the first hit verbatim response. If they can pull off some semblance of understanding, then that would be a great improvement. OTOH, they should work more on imagining realistic scenarios where these types of interactions make sense. Cortana is actually quite good for controlling media playback. It's good for hands-free navigation. It works for cooking (again, where you might not want to be fumbling around with a keyboard). Not sure about the office environment.

  36. Auto pilot is not auto pilot, and needs to be marketed as such. From Wikipedia: “An autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of an aircraft without constant ‘hands-on’ control by a human operator being required. Autopilots do not replace human operators, but instead they assist them in controlling the aircraft.” It's not self-driving. AutoPilot does exactly what it says it is. It’s driver assist at best. That is correct. Tesla does not dispute that. It's not full self-driving technology and the driver is supposed to pay attention and keep their hands on the steering wheel. How about Tesla calling it driver assist to appease the masses into avoiding them thinking it’s more than that? Look, there's a lot of differing ways to think about this but a few facts have already been established: 1. "Autopilot" is fine for a name. You, personally, may not like it, but the name itself doesn't imply anything. Autopilot in other systems does not abdicate operator responsibility; the same is true here. There are an awful lot of poorly named things in this universe -- and lets be clear here, the name has absolutely nothing to do with the function. If this system were called "hey numbnuts, keep paying attention to the road" instead of "autopilot" you'd still have people having accidents. And then what would you complain about? 2. Even if you did get a global renaming policy completed, it won't change the system. There are people who have no driver assist systems at all who do the exact same things and get into accidents all the time; this is only news because someone didn't follow the rules. Not following the rules causes accidents. Lets stop calling them "stop signs" and call them "engage your brake systems now" signs, because people keep running through them. Lets not call them speed limit signs, lets call them "car control risk threshhold numerics" because no one listens to those either. You cannot fix human stupidity through renaming of product. The product is what it is and does precisely what it says it does, with the appropriate warnings. I guarantee you every Tesla owner absolutely knows these systems are not removing responsibility from the owner. You never hear after accidents like these: "Oh I just turned around to look for my dog and TOTALLY EXPECTED my car to avoid every possible accident". This is only news because it involves autonomous systems, and just happened to be a statistical anomaly. Not to overly defend Tesla (but I guess I am), there are less accidents as a result of their autonomous systems than there are without them and the system keeps improving. As for "Auto pilot is not auto pilot and needs to be marketed as such" -- when you get ANY Tesla system it defines it very explicitly: Autopilot Included - Enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane -- with the note: "The currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous" I recognize this is a horrible accident that shouldn't have happened. I recognize that it sucks. Any accident does. But the system itself is fine, the name is fine, and people are still stupid. I just hope the system can learn from this and whatever caused this accident to occur wasn't a total waste. "AutoPilot" may be technically fine by definition for a name but most average people will misinterpret it. "Assisted Driving Mode" is much clearer for the average person and would lead to less misinterpretation. We should know by now people don't read the fine print so if the naming term is as clear as possible this will help. It won't stop everyone from being idiots but such a small change will at least help a good number more realize. I think they should disable autopilot on cars until the driver has watched a non skippable video/tutorial on the dashboard while parked that explains the limitations of the system. also have them verbally confirm that they understand the limitations too and it should stick in their minds that they are liable if they take both hands off the wheel. problem with that is they would need a camera or some other way to identify the person in the drivers seat and that would bring other kinds of controversy. Without that once one person "watches" said tutorial, anyone would be able to get in the car and activate the autopilot. Guys, this is academic and you are also overthinking this. Every ... single ... time autopilot is engaged, it says, on the screen, "keep your hands on the wheel, be prepared to take over at any time." At no point does the car remotely insinuate that it is in control. The driver is always in control, or should be. The system should not compensate for people being stupid - if people still want to take their hands off the wheel they can, but hey, it's not like the system remotely insinuates by name or action or alert that you can or should.
