  2. Sure, if all you're doing is running one game. But if you want to run multiple games at high frame rate simultaneously, do streaming (twitch, Netflix), etc., Ryzen will kill. I have one monitor for Netflix/HBO, I have another for browsing/discord/teams, and I switch between games on another. Sounds like a normal PC workload 🤣

  6. The article and funding is for cars that are built and made in China for Chinese people. Not about exporting here. That's why and how they got government funding. And to the points in the rest of this thread, there's definitely a economy lesson here in supply chain management - we get a lot of parts, material, and product from China and other countries, but assembly and build for Tesla-NorthAmerica sales are all in the USA. China and America are two markets where the environment has to move away from fossil fuels as much as possible. As much as I'd agree with the sentiment to not necessarily build into a regime, Tesla is using the Chinese government and effectively franchising Tesla there. It's pretty brilliant, because it will mean cheaper electric cars for the Chinese as compared to imported cars with fees. It's a clear win for Tesla as a company, the environment, and yes, China.

  11. You can look at it from another perspective. Intel could have moved to 6-cores with sandy bridge and 8 with haswell on their non-HEDT platforms, but that probably would have killed AMD. This isn't a defense of intel by any means, just that in some rare cases stagnation could be beneficial in a non-competitive environment. I'm just glad that intel's complacency means that now I have a cheap 6-core ryzen 2600 with an upgrade path to 16-cores, and probably even the 4000 series.

  13. Gaming HP Omen performance and power issues

My laptop is HP OMEN 15, RTX 2070, using the HP 200W power supply. This power supply runs fine on another laptop Lately my laptop is having performance issues probably related to the power source or the battery. Every time i start playing a heavy game, the laptop immediately starts acting like i'm unplugging and plugging the charger constantly. I have joined a video so that you can have clearer understanding of my issue. As you can see in the last part of my video, the battery icon keeps indicating that i'm unplugging and plugging the charger over and over again. Please note that i have already cleaned dust out of my computer and changed its thermal pasting thinking that it might solve the issue but unfortunately it didn't. I also tried running the laptop without its internal battery and everything was fine until i wanted to start playing a game which ended in an immediate and sudden shut down of the laptop. I'm so confused, and it's making me re think my decision of buying an Omen laptop as it is only 1 years old and showing what might be a serious internal issue. Will someone please help me figure out a way to solve this ?

From a cursory glance and test I was able to disable the video, although in the process it disables the video from playing at the top of the page as well. You're probably better off just clicking the X button next to the window when it plays, it takes less than a second to do.

So the US spends the most money on their military. Oh no look out! Large chunks of that is in hundreds of R&D programs that others, you know, like China and Russia, try to steal and ultimately reverse engineer to try to keep up. And then large parts of that are also inflated overspending because they can and congress isn't bothering to curb. Your point is that a chart of military spending offers no information is idiotic. Your attempt to pivot the discussion is ineffective. gg no re The US military is more than just the military for the US. You posting a chart with zero context means nothing. Try again, but this time, use your words to establish what you think instead of making idiotic insinuations without considering all the variables. It is about the U.s sticking their noses where they should not be, and our government in the UK follow like duckings. The U.s have always wanted to be the world police, one good thing about Trump, in fact the only good thing about Trump is that maybe he change that, pulling forces out is the right thing to do, sad that the U.s is the main cause of conflicts in the world.

  17. Password Safe 3.51

My password manager program of choice. the database file interchanges fine Windows and Linux (i.e. if you create a database on Windows, the Linux version works with that database without issue and I would assume vice versa). after doing a quick search it seems like they have a Android version but it's not by Rony Shapiro, which is normally who maintains the Windows/Linux version (who I think Bruce Schneier personally knows), but someone named Jeff Harris. but a quick look online I see that Jeff Harris posting in the SourceForge section tied to Rony Shapiro. so it's likely legit. so in other words... Password Safe has Windows/Linux/Android versions. although with that said... in Linux Mint software repositories for example you need to search for 'passwordsafe' and NOT 'password safe' otherwise it won't find it. the version in the MInt repositories is currently v1.04 beta and has Feb 1st 2018 date on it. but in general it does not get updates as quickly as the Windows versions do but it should not be a issue as it works fine and would only need updating if there was a security issue that turned up. also, for those on Linux using Firejail (a sandbox for Linux for your browser etc (get it from the SourceForge website since it's newer than the one in the repositories)) it would be a good idea to add the Password Safe entry into "~/.config/firejail/disable-passwdmgr.inc" file (copy that file to that folder from... "/etc/firejail"). because while Password Safe's "~/.config/.pwsafe" folder is blocked in say Firefox by default when you run Firefox through Firejail sandbox, which is okay as far as the browser is concerned, I noticed running other programs under Firejail some use the "disable-passwdmgr.inc" file to block access certain things in your Home folder and since Password Safe does not have a entry by default, certain programs will still have read access to the ".pwsafe" folder which we don't want. so you simply add "blacklist ${HOME}/.pwsafe" (without the ") to that txt file and anything that calls that 'disable-passwdmgr.inc' file will automatically block the program from any access to the .pwsafe folder. NOTE: on Linux with standard Firefox you can see it has access to the .pwsafe folder vs when you run it behind Firejail sandbox by typing in "file:///" (without the ") on Firefox itself and browse to the home folder. but personally I avoid using smart phones for anything important as a general rule as they seem more likely to become compromised as I suspect those don't receive security updates as quickly as Windows/Linux do(?). or another way to look at it... between a typical Windows system vs smart phone vs Linux (desktop), Linux desktop is least likely to get anything shady on ones system browsing the internet and Firejail helps give one a bit more insurance/security by the small chance something slips by it won't be able to access anything too important in your Home folder etc.

  18. Power Mac G4 reports pc133 RAM?

Granted ... I do not know much about Apple hardware ... but you have two different speeds going on. Your G4, according to the manual, is designed for DDR333/PC2700 memory (167MHz front side bus). DDR400/PC3200 is 200 MHz FSB. Now, WHY is it showing PC-133 (in effect SDR) ... beats me. As I said ... I'm not familar with Apple hardware (plus I haven't worked with DDR in a long time). I just think you need to find yourself some PC2700 (not sure why your screenshot shows PC2600...weird).

  20. Full disclosure here - Scotty has immense knowledge about cars. I do not -- I have good knowledge about technology. And as other people have pointed out in this thread, Tesla gets compared a lot to Apple, and for good reason. But lets be realistic, I wouldn't care that a standard mechanic can't deal with a Tesla, in the same way that I don't want my kids ripping apart my iPad. Cars nowadays are more technology than engine. Scotty has a fantastic point when he talks about simplicity and reliability and serviceability, but all of that comes with tradeoffs. Do you want to keep putting in oil? Getting parts? What's the TCO on a simple, reliable engine over time? Compare that with a pure EV engine and it's pretty ridiculous. Scotty has gone on record saying the simpler the engine is the better it is in general. He's gone on and on about the complexity of the hybrid models needing both an EV powertrain added to the gasoline powertrain and it's ridiculously complex, requiring specialized training also. So he's not wrong, but understand that all of this requires highly specialized service personnel, not unique to Tesla. A Tesla (Model 3 anyway, most recent) engine doesn't need oil, or service, or anything. Short of having an accident, there's no need. It's kind of like looking at the low repair score of Apple products on iFixit and deciding that Apple products suck. The reality is that most people don't have problems, most people don't care about self repair and most people are perfectly fine with Apple servicing their stuff, because mostly they don't physically break down. The maintenance schedule of a M3 - the entire car, bear in mind - is "check brake fluids every 2 years, rotate tires, wiper fluids" ... nothing with the engine. Really. Simple... because it has a ridiculously simple and efficient engine for what it does. But in a nutshell the quality issues are mostly related to the body work, and not the technology. Tesla is comparatively new to the production line, so the whole issue with body problems has nothing to do with the powertrain and reliability. I would be careful not to assume one or the other are juxtaposed. And they are getting better over time. I'm not an apologist here, just saying that for a company that isn't even a decade old in mass-producing cars, and the M3 being only in production for a few years, it's doing really stellar at responding to quality issues. I don't think anyone can or should look at the non-complexity of a pure EV engine - at least the Tesla M3 engine - and assume that it will constantly need maintenance or work, that it will constantly break down, and require a fleet of mechanics around the world. It's not a realistic need that matches the real-world reliability of the engine and powertrain.

  23. Welcome to the world of electronics... if you want the newest tech it's going to be hard to fix... even non-tesla cars have so many in car networks (CAN bus for example is one) and systems that have to talk right that no old mechanic could have all the tools to diagnose without being a dealership. Kilmer is an old grease monkey, those are going away the more we go to electric cars.

This man is dedicated that's for sure. Running and caring for 1 company is a full time and life consuming affair. For him to be dealing with TWO (Tesla/SpaceX) and doing well at both is amazing to me. I have enough trouble just running my own company. All of this on-top of doing interviews, tweeting, and dealing with lawsuits. That man is a machine.

  26. To be honest with you guys, I would not buy a Tesla even if their car cost $10k. Their reliability is bad and not standard mechanic know how to work with it. You have to take your Tesla car back to where your purchase for any repairs. Scotty Kilmer is the god of automobiles. 52 years of experience. I learned from that master.

  31. Should I upgrade my rig or stick with it?

I wouldn't spend money on an extra 16GB. It won't help with your frame rate and you'll be tossing the RAM when you decide to upgrade the entire system. With respect to the cooler ... kinda depends on what you have now. If you have the stock cooler ... sure. However, you can take the AIO with you when you decide to upgrade so it wouldn't be a temp solution. Overclocking may help...but just maybe a couple of fps. I would still just hold off and wait to see what Nvidia has coming in 2020. Are you trying to game everything at 4K?

  32. Can't boot to Windows 7 normally but can still access it.

I wouldn't have thought that it'd be the PSU surely? As once the correct drive it selected it would be 'as normal'. It's whatever is deciding to point in the wrong direction surely, no? First off, i assume IDE is normal for this? They're all connected via SATA cables into the SATA ports. I can show you if you wish for confirmation but the cables are even stamped up SATA. Anyway i Googled the long number that i need to select in order to boot (ST...............1NS164) and it came back as a Seagate 2TB SSHD which made sense as i was fairly sure this was the drive with the boot loader. I'm convinced i actually had this connected on its own yesterday and it didn't work, or maybe it was connected alongside the Samsung SSD, i can't say for 100% now as when something doesn't work you tend to doubt yourself. So i disconnected the lot except for the 2TB SSHD. It worked - it showed in BIOS and it actually booted. From disconnecting everything else i could then see what the 2 DVD (blu ray) drives were listed as. So i don't know what that ATAPI CD-ROM is all about. Anyway i disconnected one of these in case when i connected it back up the 2TB SSHD was once again not listed and reconnected everything except this one blu-ray drive. It booted. So i connected everything else up - it booted. Weird (to me) then that it took for me to disconnect everything, to reconnect everything for it to actually work when i had tried connecting everything and it didn't work. So at least it's sorted now and i've posted back in case it happens again or someone else has this issue. To go a little further, once i was finally able to have all drives showing in My Computer again, i have 2 storage drives. No Windows files, just documents, videos, music etc. This is where my OCD is kicking in but their letters are now back to front and one of the drives is appearing at the end in My Computer where it's always appeared in second position. Nothing major but like i say, i'm particular. lol. Would it be safe to just remove the drive letters on both, re-assign them and then the drives will show in the 'correct' order in My Computer without causing any problems (drive access, file loss etc)? On the bright side, this whole hoo-ha caused me to back up my files which i'd not done for some time and is something i need to get in to the habit of doing.
