  1. China already has a pretty good EV charging network for it's cities and smaller towns for some time now. Over 16,000 EV chargers installed by one company in 2011. In 2016, almost half of all EV were sold in China. Granted, the majority of them were small city cars with speed limits of around 32mph. At the same time, China's EV growth-rate was more than 85 percent. The global average was 42 percent. https://www.fleetcarma.com/electric-vehicles-in-china/ We'd have to assume that China has the infrastructure to upgrade to superchargers or better. They passed law in 2015 to standardised charger plug is rated at 400v/32amp China also set plans for 12,000 charging and battery swap stations, and 4.8 million charging piles throughout the entire country by 2020. Their plan was to have one charging pile for each EV.

  3. Surface Pro 7 review: It finally has USB Type-C

"Another thing that you'll notice is that all three of those ports are USB 3.1 Gen 1, meaning that they support 5Gbps data transfer speed" Welcome to 2012. Still using decades old technology, even mac has 10Gbps.... Overpriced garbage, like every other surface device.

  4. Sure, if all you're doing is running one game. But if you want to run multiple games at high frame rate simultaneously, do streaming (twitch, Netflix), etc., Ryzen will kill. I have one monitor for Netflix/HBO, I have another for browsing/discord/teams, and I switch between games on another. Sounds like a normal PC workload 🤣 you would be surprised how many people run this way now. gone are the days of having a PC to record while the other PC is the gaming rig. machines are so strong now that you can do multiple things without sacrifice. no one needs to run a game at 200 fps. we don't live in benchmarks. Yes I would be surprised because IRL, I can’t name one person who runs multiple games simultaneously at high frame rate while watching Netflix, while browsing.

  7. I see but that's a dual in-line package, and yes, it, flat packaging and also things like RAM chips do have a black mould around the die, IINM. AFAIK modern CPU packages do not have that black mould and have a (usually) transparent resin applied on the die, at least that's what I've been reading all these years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ia/File:Celeron_mobile.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...dia/File:Celeron_mobile.jpg Still, even if there is a packaging around the die, I'm pretty sure the people who do the measurements take that into account. Every source that I've read state zen and zen+ have the same die size. I was always under the impression that if a node is smaller, then the die would be smaller too, at least that's how it was with GPU die shrinks in the past. If the 12nm node is in fact smaller than 14nm, then how come the dies are the same size? Can the transistors actually be smaller but the gap between them simply be larger, which would result in a larger die? My understanding is that a smaller die is one of the benefits of a smaller process. I am not sure why they would keep the die size the same, perhaps to avoid a total redesign. That may be why it was called Zen + instead of Zen 2. I don't know. I find it interesting too, learning a lot, thanks for the good conversation.

10 cores 14nm+++++ 5.2ghz i really think that intel is turning into the new 2014-2015 AMD fx 9590 they are just pumping up the clock speed and power consumption meanwhile AMD is on 7nm with a 16 core 32 thread 105w tdp cpu as there top MAINSTREAM cpu pcie 4.0 on their mainstream boards and their HTCP cpus start at 24 cores like lol intel common pull it the hell together

  10. I tend to agree that we don't need this much product segmentation, however, nVidia is worse. They currently have 13 cards on the market from the current generation (1650, 1650 Super, 1660, 1660 Super, 1660 Ti, 2060, 2060 Super, 2070, 2070 Super, 2080, 2080 Super, 2080 Ti and Titan RTX). A buyer needs to do research to find the few that are actually worth buying. As far as making a 5800 XT, AMD's main focus is on gaining market share and respect. Very few people buy cards above the 2070 Super / 5700 XT level. At that level AMD competes. Which company has the fastest card really only matters to those few looking to buy such a card. I suspect there is some supply strategy with the current RDNA line-up. They are all fine, but not shining stars. AMD could have priced them more compatibly if they wanted to sell more, but maybe they don't want to sell more, at least not right now. RDNA uses the same process node as Ryzen, and that node has seen some availability issues. Think of how much worse it would be if RDNA was just as popular as Ryzen. I think AMD is really trying to take this time to break into the sever market. They can't do that if all their EYPC chips are on back-order.

They are producing high-quality devices at a lower price point than many parts of the world. Examples are the OnePlus and Huawei phones I think China has good quality manufacturing, but it seems like Chinese based companies often cut corners, steal IP and have poor support on their own products. The "Made in China" tag doesn't bother me too much as long as I know a reputable company is putting their name on the product. But when when final product is sold by a Chinese based company, I still look for other options.

  19. That's been my understanding too, but it seems I've been quite wrong all these years. Apparently you CAN migrate a chip to a smaller node and yet keep the same die size by having more "padding". Yes, very interesting stuff. No problem; you helped me learn something new, thanks.

  20. What do you mean by "packaging" exactly? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit_packaging Replying with a link because what I mean is exactly what I said, that the package is the black thing you see under the heat spreader, the die is inside of that. The term "chip carrier" may also be used.

The bezels are actually narrower than this dude's thumbs. And you need something to hold onto anyway. It's still a tablet, after all. I don't know how "delete bezels" became such a trend. This. There are other concerns worth noting with the Surface Pro series, but the bezels aren't something I'd complain over, as having bezels is the reason I chose the specific model of iPad that I did. Gotta be able to hold the damn thing... If we were talking laptops, that's a diff story.

  22. The fact is though, most people aren't upgrading their CPUs each year. In many cases you just get a new video card and you're good to go. While AMD sticks to a socket for longer, it's not forever. If I make a AM4 based system today, then by the time I'm looking at upgrading CPU, we're talking 2+ years at least. In my case it's around the 6 year mark actually. So AMD will be on a new socket by then for sure, and you're going to want to upgrade the mobo to get things like PCI-e 5.0 or DDR5/6 support etc. You are missing one key advantage of socket/chipset compatibility. It gives you the option to save money buying the last gen motherboard. When Ryzen 3000 came out, X570 boards cost a LOT and the only big selling point was PCIe 4.0, something many were willing to go without. May people are pairing a brand new Ryzen 3000 CPU with a new (but last gen) B450 motherboard. Also, in the case of Ryzen, the 3000 series has pretty huge gaming advantages over the last two (especially first gen). I am sure there are more than a few people out there who built a Ryzen 1700X system 2.5 years ago and may be interested in getting a massive performance increase for nothing but the $200 cost of a 3600.

  23. AMD's Radeon RX 5600 XT may not be far behind the RX 5700 [Update]

Nvidia floods the low an mid end market all the time, just look at the 1050, 1060,1650 , 1650 ti, 1660, 1660 ti, an now with it's super cards. I'm sure I forgot a few cards in the low to mid range from Nvidia. Than you got all the extra BS from companies like EVGA who needs to release around 10 versions of each cards like FTW, FTW 2.0, FTW 3.0, SC, SSC, SSSC, etc etc. So yeah don't be hating on AMD for releasing a new mid range card. Not saying nVidia is any better. Just saying it's become silly period. IMO all we need is a card for sub 1080p, one for 1080p, one for 1440p and one that targets 4k. 4 cards, and heck, maybe 6 if you want to toss in a few with less and more vram. That's enough, otherwise it's just a confusing mess. I believe flooding the market at the low end (under $200) makes sense because a lot of people shopping at this budget may be poor and every dollar counts. The more options they have, the better they may be served. I agree that we should have solid options below $200. But just because someone chooses a card below $200 doesn't mean they are poor. They may just not put that much value into gaming. If I wanted to, I could SLI two 2080 Ti cards without it hurting my wallet too much, but instead I chose a 2070 Super, and to be honest, I have a bit of buyer's remorse. Based on the games I am playing and how much I play them, I feel like I would have been just as happy with a 1660 Ti.

  24. Tsmc's 12nm isn't actually smaller; it's simply an improved 14nm process that can clock higher. Compare the die size of the Zen and Zen+ chips and you'd see they are the same. Tsmc used a smaller number for marketing reasons. Intel already has improved 14nm processes, 14++ being the latest iteration, which actually perform better than 12nm. In order to gain meaningful improvements they have no choice but to move to 10 or 7nm, but they are having significant issues with the former and the latter isn't ready.

Well the 1050 2GB came with the Machine, why am going for a newer Geforce 1660 Super soon as I can, Gonna use this system though as long as I can, and try to save funds for future major upgrade, but for now works fairly well for my needs. and probably even better with the future upgraded card, already upgraded Power supply. Purchased this Monitor Christmas 2018, so yeah monitor is new, used to game at 1600x900 for many years, finally upgraded to match my Laptop screen resolution 1920x1080 Plan on staying with 1080P for a long while, not sure how long, but probably til I wanna game at 4k in the way way way future or with a future newer system

Holding onto my Intel I7 7700, 16gb of ram Geforce 1050 2gb( soon to be 1660 Super soon as I can get that card) plan on holding onto at least another year or two, while trying to save funds for a future major upgrade is what my plan is right now in terms of PC hardware, once I get the 1660 Super card should be plenty fine with my setup to Game at 1080P a long while, don't really care on going to higher resolution as yet, In my opinion if your current PC meets most of your needs, perhaps waiting to upgrade is not a bad thing, then again if you got the funds, then I say go for it.

  30. Google Pixel 4a leaked renders show punch-hole display, headphone jack

There are still plenty of folks with still-usable wired headphones that never went Bluetooth or other wireless headphone tech; I'm merely one of them. What is wrong with e-SIM? Those are popping up in both Europe and India; more so than even the United States. (The ONLY provider that I am aware of in the US that supports e-SIM is Google Fi.) The fingerprint lock is kept; those folks thinking that it emulated AMOLED (let alone OLED), forgot about Pixels - only the Pixel 4 has no fingerprint lock; ALL of them have either OLED or AMOLED. The SD card (to a large degree) can be obviated by cloud storage; and I did that before getting a Pixel 3a. (Is it more that you don't want to? If so, say so - I have no problem with that.)

  39. You can look at it from another perspective. Intel could have moved to 6-cores with sandy bridge and 8 with haswell on their non-HEDT platforms, but that probably would have killed AMD. This isn't a defense of intel by any means, just that in some rare cases stagnation could be beneficial in a non-competitive environment. I'm just glad that intel's complacency means that now I have a cheap 6-core ryzen 2600 with an upgrade path to 16-cores, and probably even the 4000 series.

  46. Microsoft has some exciting Xbox and Surface hardware coming in 2020

They are dead on arrival. They'll probably sell a few during the launch hype, then they will be on the scrap heap. You'd be a fool to become an early adopter. Some people never learn though and keep wasting money on Microsoft mobile tech. I'm unsure what Microsoft can do with the Surface laptop line-up. The latest releases were massively disappointing and the 15" Surface Book was an under-powered piece of very expensive junk. The Surface Pro X design is what the Surface Pro 7 should have been. Instead Microsoft saved their best for the worst possible internals. Microsoft need to step it up in 2020.
