Tesla delivers its first batch of Chinese manufactured Model 3 cars

You'd be surprised... but China shouldn't be considered anymore as a source of cheap and bad quality items. They are producing high-quality devices at a lower price point than many parts of the world. Examples are the OnePlus and Huawei phones Cherry picked examples. The overwhelming majority of product that is imported to the US from china is cheap junk. The cheap plastic ###### yes but they also produce every high finish electrical item on the planet, iphone, Samsung, Microsoft, Sony, MacBooks. All that fit and finish comes from chinese manufacturing, there’s cheap ###### yes. But there’s also very high quality products when they care to. After visiting their highway network and train network is second to none in the world. It’s amazing the China is ###### mentality for those who have never experienced it. So because of their highways and trains or a few examples of US, Japanese, or Korean companies that know how to utilize Chinese labor, we should have a better impression of China? Like... in what world does that constitute a change of reputation with a country that's actively detaining its people? We're not even talking about FUD from FOX News anymore, as it's on just about every outlet you can find, within and external to the US, regardless of political bias. Just yesterday, another ~497,000 children detained to be indoctrinated in pro-CCP boarding schools... https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/38469611 point -
Surface Pro 7 review: It finally has USB Type-C
domboy reacted to Silversee for a topic
,"Another thing that you'll notice is that all three of those ports are USB 3.1 Gen 1, meaning that they support 5Gbps data transfer speed." Hi Rich. Microsoft doesn't make this clear in their published technical specifications, but USB on the 2019 Surface models is USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps), not Gen 1. See a discussion of the USB-C port capabilities of various Surface devices here: https://dancharblog.wordpress....ce-usb-c-port-capabilities/ Cheers.1 point -

Outlook is the latest Microsoft Android app to pass 100 million installs on the Play Store
Xenon reacted to PGHammer for a topic
Outlook (Android OR Windows) is popular because it does what users want and need - without getting in their way. Also, it costs squat. (While Outlook for Windows is part of Microsoft Office, it is also available standalone - and has been since Outlook 97 - at a cost of zero if you simply upgrade from a previous version; Outlook 98 for Windows was actually given away to the planet at large; note there was no Office 98 for Windows. While Outlook has been known as a Microsoft Exchange client, it has supported POP3 from the beginning, and gained IMAP4 chops with that given-away Outlook 98 - that means it can completely replace any POP3 or IMAP4 client - on either Windows or Android - including GMail. (And if you use Outlook for Windows, you can now use the same software on Android - in fact, why wouldn't you? If you are worried about losing being able to use Google Contacts OR Calendar, you won't; I've used Outlook both on my current Pixel 3a and the S7 it replaced - and still use both Contacts and Calendar.)1 point -

+BudMan reacted to goretsky for a topic
Hello, One thing you may wish to do is purchase a router which can run firmware from a third-party source such as DD-WRT. This ensures the device can regularly be flashed with updated firmware to fix security issues long after the original manufacturer has ceased supporting it. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky1 point -

Samsung's next foldable phone might be available before the Galaxy S11
+E.Worm Jimmy reacted to dead.cell for a topic
Okay, first off: this makes WAY more sense. My criticism of the Galaxy Fold was that they over-spec'd the device, with way too many cameras, a disgusting notch, and an outer display that looked like a half-assed afterthought design. The notification banner makes way more sense than trying to have dual screens anyway. Wasn't that the point of having a foldable screen that you didn't need two screens? That being said, what I don't want to see is a weaker CPU. Keep up to date on the specs without going overboard. This should be about making a device that's reasonable, even if still beyond the current flagship cost. A $2000+ phone isn't gonna get anywhere. Edit: also, hopefully they'll have fixed that stupid hinge finally...1 point -

They are producing high-quality devices at a lower price point than many parts of the world. Examples are the OnePlus and Huawei phones I think China has good quality manufacturing, but it seems like Chinese based companies often cut corners, steal IP and have poor support on their own products. The "Made in China" tag doesn't bother me too much as long as I know a reputable company is putting their name on the product. But when when final product is sold by a Chinese based company, I still look for other options.1 point -

Teaser trailer for Star Citizen's Squadron 42 campaign shows off its visuals
JoeBlober reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
The funny thing is, the more people rage against Star Citizen, the more money it seems to make lol. It's almost like the suckers who fall for obvious scams are immune to critical thinking and as such would rather defend being scammed than admit they were tricked. Just stating it as it is, the more people rage about Star Citizen, the more money they seem to make lol. In my case, I didn't spend that much on Star Citizen anyway, just a little more than I would on a triple a title so even if it does go sour, it's not the end of the world but in truth, there is already enough contents in the games that the money I've put in makes it worth it. Beside, a scam is something that you buy into something but get nothing out of which clearly isn't Star Citizen.1 point -

China already has a pretty good EV charging network for it's cities and smaller towns for some time now. Over 16,000 EV chargers installed by one company in 2011. In 2016, almost half of all EV were sold in China. Granted, the majority of them were small city cars with speed limits of around 32mph. At the same time, China's EV growth-rate was more than 85 percent. The global average was 42 percent. https://www.fleetcarma.com/electric-vehicles-in-china/ We'd have to assume that China has the infrastructure to upgrade to superchargers or better. They passed law in 2015 to standardised charger plug is rated at 400v/32amp China also set plans for 12,000 charging and battery swap stations, and 4.8 million charging piles throughout the entire country by 2020. Their plan was to have one charging pile for each EV.1 point -

Surface Pro 7 review: It finally has USB Type-C
domboy reacted to Osiris for a topic
Surface pro x is more exciting but not for everyone, you get over the same old bezels pretty quick on the sp7 as the device is so functional. What I cant get over is the battery life. I use to get 6 hours on my sp3 this thing barely hobbles to 7 hours, that's not good enough for 4 generations worth of improvements and why it's going back.1 point -

AMD's Radeon RX 5600 XT may not be far behind the RX 5700 [Update]
norseman reacted to sphbecker for a topic
I tend to agree that we don't need this much product segmentation, however, nVidia is worse. They currently have 13 cards on the market from the current generation (1650, 1650 Super, 1660, 1660 Super, 1660 Ti, 2060, 2060 Super, 2070, 2070 Super, 2080, 2080 Super, 2080 Ti and Titan RTX). A buyer needs to do research to find the few that are actually worth buying. As far as making a 5800 XT, AMD's main focus is on gaining market share and respect. Very few people buy cards above the 2070 Super / 5700 XT level. At that level AMD competes. Which company has the fastest card really only matters to those few looking to buy such a card. I suspect there is some supply strategy with the current RDNA line-up. They are all fine, but not shining stars. AMD could have priced them more compatibly if they wanted to sell more, but maybe they don't want to sell more, at least not right now. RDNA uses the same process node as Ryzen, and that node has seen some availability issues. Think of how much worse it would be if RDNA was just as popular as Ryzen. I think AMD is really trying to take this time to break into the sever market. They can't do that if all their EYPC chips are on back-order.1 point -

Windows RT Tablet - Can I Do Anything With it?
Sir Topham Hatt reacted to +InsaneNutter for a topic
Beyond Jailbreaking i dont think any alternate OS's such as Android or Linux were ever ported to RT devices. XDA developers maintained a list of desktop apps ported to Windows RT that can be used when jailbroken. Theirs also Win86emu that allows jailbroken Windows RT devices to run x86 binaries, I believe some apps work ok, however many are quite slow / don't work at all. A small list of compatible apps can be found here.1 point -

Why not both? Integrate it into Windows, *and* let people disable it and do things manually as well. Software is supposed to be customizable and cater to the user's needs. Apple announces AirPods Pro for $249, coming October 30
Synomenon reacted to adrynalyne for a topic
It does not matter the brand, if they price their products same thing, it's overpriced. I will never pay no more than $60 for an earbuds. and noone is forcing you to do so. I am personally obsessed with the quality and although all wireless headphones/earbuds suffer from same quality issue, I think apple did a fine job with original/second gen airpod. The only issue I had with it was lack of noice cancelling which they added. I would buy this for Christmas. problem with cheap sub $100 earbuds are all lacking the quality audio driver and components and also overall cheap build quality which falls apart quick. long term its better investment plus you actually enjoy listening to music. Its like driving a cheap car vs. expensive car. remember that luxury cars break and are expensive to maintenance while the cheap one are more reliable. Tell that to Fiat owners. Well to be clear, not all cheap cars are reliable but some. That also applies to luxury vehicles. Your conclusion was faulty.1 point -
