Google kills Xiaomi integration after Home Hub showed stills from other Mi cameras
alex_d2w and 3 others reacted to n_K for a topic
Why is it every remote camera seems to have this flaw? Do none of the companies honestly care? You'd think after it's been on the news 20+ times already that they would actually check to ensure their products don't have this flaw. #internetofshit strikes again. Why would anything think a camera - permanently connected to a random company's server which sends data that anyone can view is a good idea I'll never understand.4 points -

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and Note10 Lite are now official
samw61 and one other reacted to Dutchie64 for a topic
If all these manufacturers were not so lame with their update policies, I -might- be interested for once in a Note Lite. But Samsung doesn't have the best track record on this, like most Android brands. Google should force at least longer security updates (2-3 years at least) on them, and -at least- one major OS upgrade (+ updates again). Apple does it right in this way, despite my aversion to anything Apple2 points -

Hello, Yes, you can definitely re-assign the drive letters using the GUI-based Disk Management (filename: DISKMGMT.MSC) or the command-line based DiskPart (filename: DISKPART.EXE) programs which come with Windows. Such changes are immediate, but you may wish to reboot afterwards just in case there are any odd programs running in the background which do not recognize the updated drive letters. Which Samsung SSD - QVO or EVO? (Desktop PC)
goretsky and one other reacted to farmeunit for a topic
Mine are both NVMe, but I bought a 512GB EVO PLUS for boot and an Intel 2TB 660p for secondary later on. The EVO Plus was priced much higher than others, but at the time was the fastest out. That being said, when I went to buy a 2TB drive, the prices were even worse. I think it was $350 or so for a Samsung drive and got the Intel on sale for $200. A few other models were under $300, but not many. I only needed a 2x drive for the second slot. The EVO was a 3x slot. What I'm getting at, is done necessarily think you need a 2TB drive for everything. You can get a nice speed smaller boot drive and then an inexpensive secondary drive. It all depends on what you can spend and what you feel you need though. I would take the EVO over QVO, but we are buying QVO drives for work due to costs and have had no issues with them, for the most part. Kingston, Crucial, and 750 EVO from a while back. All going strong. We've been buying Kingston Q500 mainly. Samsung Magician is definitely the best software out for SSDs.2 points -

LG to introduce new Real 8K TVs at CES 2020
+Dick Montage reacted to ad47uk for a topic
Very little broadcast in 4K to be honest, not in the UK anyway where terrestrial TV is still the main way of watching TV. Sky may have a 4K channel or two, I am not sure. 4K takes so much bandwidth that it would be almost impossible to broadcast 4K on terrestrial and expensive on Dsat. Most 4K is online. I will get a 4K Tv at some point, but I am in no rush1 point -

I've never understood why anyone would ever want a "connected home", when the underlying system is totally out of their control. Assistants that listen to your voice, cameras that work through the same system and can be made by anyone with little oversight, doorbells, even "smart" bedroom alarm clocks. I love tech, but you will never get me to put one of these devices in my home. It's not even about some tinfoil theory about the government wanting to monitor your daily goings on, it's the fact that you are placing all of your trust in companies that base their business on mining data from people.1 point -

Samsung shipped more than 6.7 million 5G smartphones last year
dead.cell reacted to cork1958 for a topic
They’re all true 5G. Sadly, they don’t exactly work with the new bands that’ll bring 5G to the masses, instead of only while standing under street lights in NYC. Most Of the modems (Samsung uses X50 and X55 from Qualcomm) don’t have the antennas or support the frequencies needed to use the new sub-6Ghz bands rolling out. Even if the early 5G Samsung smartphones people bought has the proper antenna config and modem support, there’s never a software update to enable additional bands due to the requirements of regulatory bodies (like the FCC). As it stands, Samsung only makes carrier-specific 5G phones that support only the current 5G bands the carrier used when the phone was launched. Meaning, you’ll still have to buy a new phone when carriers roll out new 5G bands. Thanks for that explanation, but as I said, more money than brains!1 point -

All software has flaws, there should be a limit to how much people trust software and devices. Even if a company cares, even if money is at stake, there are still errors in software or even hardware and they do get exploited. Social engineering as well, people are flawed. Whether it's someone at home or someone at the company that will get taken advantage of (or bribed, or someone unscrupulous who will want to take advantage for themselves).1 point -

Teaser trailer for Star Citizen's Squadron 42 campaign shows off its visuals
JoeBlober reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Come on @Excalpius, you can trick a couple of young hare and there but not 1.2 million individual backers, especially when providing +20 days on average per year of totally free access. To argue that the number of rabbits, or suckers, who've been conned justifies the scam is the logical fallacy known as the argument from popularity. Popularity does not provide evidence of truth, validity, or quality, mate. The rest of your post is just more defending this $250 million tech demo when all I did was ask about its writers, which you bullshitted about. Are you getting paid to keep flogging this dead horse? Because I have no agenda here. I just asked a question, which you tried to ###### me on. I have to wonder, do you even know what a scam is because it doesn't seem like you do because Star Citizen going off the contents they've already delivered isn't a scam, a scam is something different that you don't seem to understand. Beside, why are you so disgruntled about Star Citizen? if you don't care about the project, move on and ignore it but don't try to ruin it for others that want to see the project become a success. Beside, what people do with their money is up to them and clearly they keep spending on Star Citizen even with all the fud going around, the irony being is that more publicity even bad publicity seems to be helping the funding project of Star Citizen, in that sense, keep it up lol. Also, do you even know how much contents there already is in Star Citizen?, it's got more than what many games have when they are done, and they've hardly even started.1 point -

This is not true. Shoehorning characters like Fett into everything and rerunning old characters is one of the worst things they've been obsessed with doing. We need new characters. We need new Ahsokas and Aphras. Fans love those characters a helluva lot more than we love seeing little child Boba Fett shoved into other movies. Ahsoka was wildly unpopular when she was introduced, but after some changes and development, she's one of the most popular characters in canon. The best Star Wars rumors recently have been the Old Republic movie rumors. Boba Fett sucks, anyway.1 point -
