  2. Even shorter range than 5GHz. You have to sit next to your WiFi router to take advantage of this.

  3. There might not be a Google Pixel 4a XL this year

Nope, I don't buy any new phone. I wait until a new phone is released, then buy the last of LAST year's model, at a better price.

  4. People shutting off 5Ghz because it’s “useless” boggles the mind. Fix your networks. It doesn’t take much to blanket your whole home in 5Ghz. Where I live, the 2.4 frequency is so flooded that it’s unreliable and the speeds are garbage in comparison. It’s 2020 guys. I’ve been blanketed with 5Ghz for the better part of the last decade.

  5. Probably because it's not a successor or a replacement. This is just Wi-Fi 6 on a new wave frequency, and since there hasn't been new Wi-Fi spectrum in a long time, it'll probably be necessary to differentiate devices that support it. But it is still not a new version of Wi-Fi. Not so much of a replacement, but does sound like a successor. Assuming that 6Ghz does go through though, how many future versions of Wifi wont support it? I feel like maybe now its just 6E but down the road it will be "7 LTE nextgen evolution" (e.g. GSM) or whatever crap can be tacked on at the end. 6 (w/o 6ghz) and 6.1 (w/ 6ghz) makes more sense to me... but eh... Most likely, staring with Wi-Fi 7, there will no longer be a need to distinguish anything, the 6GHz should be part of the spec. This is a mid-generation expansion, which is probably they went with this name.

  10. Wi-Fi 6 may soon expand into the 6GHz spectrum, to be called Wi-Fi 6E

And thus ends the short lived simplist plan of wifi naming. Why not just call it Wifi 6.1.

  11. PC reboots while playing games

Not always, no. It sometimes shuts down to prevent a heat overload. Yeah, I agree to that. Or a blank screen.

  13. Laptop Power Adapter Feels Extremely Hot While Gaming

Oh ok, Well didn't catch fire thank god lol, and yes keeping the power adapter and laptop ontop of desk while doing resource intensive tasks, battery use usually light duty tasks most of the time when I use the laptop. Glad nothing to worry about unless bursts into flames, and that wouldn't be too good lol

  14. PC reboots while playing games

If memtest86 comes back clean and you try the motherboard/GPU at stock frequencies ... I would start looking at the PSU. If you have another one handy ... that would be great. If not .... maybe go to your local computer store and purchase one to test (with a return policy). If the new PSU works ... great ... if the issue is still present you can return the new PSU.

  18. Random crashes on new PC

You: Regardless of that picture of what looks like a cpu cooler from 2004 the 9700k does not come with one. No "k" line processor does and it's been that way for a very long time.

  19. Yep, 5Ghz is turned off on my router, it is more annoying than useful, Then you either don't know how to properly set up your system, or you live in some Faraday-cage-like dwelling. My router blankets our entire home and outdoor space with reliable 5GHz signal. Even my wireless security cam on the far end of the home connects well with 5GHz signal which can make for a much better picture quality because of the increased bandwidth over the 2.4GHz signal. The only devices using 2.4GHz at our home are low-bandwidth things like the oven, refrigerator, and garage door opener.

  22. It should, it's just chrome with an ms logo You can say that about every browser on the market today. And not Chrome, it is Chromium (everywhere except for iOS) Or, I could simply say what I did about this browser since this is version of chromium enhanced by Microsoft and the one I currently want to use.

  23. that's always the risk. just like when people bought pre-N routers and ended up not being able to be upgraded to N. doubly sad because the pre-N routers were very expensive.

  31. Samsung announces new Odyssey gaming monitors at CES 2020

Still scratching my head over why we aren't seeing more ultrawide 4K-class displays. I fell in love with 21:9 but the vertical resolution is still stuck years in the past. I realize "gaming" monitors were content to sit at 1080p for a decade longer than necessary because MUH FRAMEZ but I'm seriously thinking the desktop display market has largely given up.

  32. Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and Note10 Lite are now official

If all these manufacturers were not so lame with their update policies, I -might- be interested for once in a Note Lite. But Samsung doesn't have the best track record on this, like most Android brands. Google should force at least longer security updates (2-3 years at least) on them, and -at least- one major OS upgrade (+ updates again). Apple does it right in this way, despite my aversion to anything Apple

  33. It's a bit ironic honestly... people want the easiest and cheapest possible DIY solution instead of hiring someone who knows what they're doing to set up a system.. then they turn around and complain about the result.

  34. Now that all the senior citizens above me have made it clear that they are above the lures of new technology, I will say it looks pretty cool! Excited to see more. Never understand why this site has so many grumpy "back in my day" people on it. It's a technology site, you don't have to constantly prove how your 4 yr old phone is still useful. I'm glad the site still works on Internet Explorer 5 in Windows XP so that these folks can still participate.
