You are kidding, right? No he is right. Youtube is full of examples of professional ads, music videos and even entire movies shot using just an iPhone 11 Pro. So let me put this in different words, and see if you agree... The iPhone 11 Pro, with a camera that is on par with a 2015 Lumia 950XL, is good enough for professional work? Here is the thing, smartphone cameras are good, damn good. However, they are not anywhere near professional cameras, nor do they have the features necessary for more advanced photography needs. Take a couple of examples, a professional camera can capture dynamic range from a bright light to detail in the darkest part of the room at the same time. A professional camera can maintain consistent framerates when shooting varying levels of detail, light, and motion. And no, HDR capture is not the same (HDR is a feature that first appeared on the Lumia Icon in 2014.) An iPhone cannot reproduce the F-Stops necessary for professional use. Users have no control over video recording framerate locking or the heavy compression, and these are just a couple of tiny examples without diving into the sensor technology, color consistency, professional lenses and on and on. (Trying to merge two shots taken at different times is hard when there is no light or color baseline that the photographer can control.) Go to YouTube and look up any video by professionals comparing an iPhone to a professional camera. At best they will say it does a good job, but they will also explain why it fails to meet basic features necessary for professional work. Corridor had one a while back, that was complimentary of the iPhone, but also demonstrated why it couldn't be used for professional work. As I said, smartphone cameras are damn good, but they are not anywhere near professional equipment. The other irony, is after years of faking it with saturating, sharpening, and other tricks like over exposing pictures and video, along with using low end sensors and lenses, Apple now want the world to admire the commitment to their camera technology. I just wish they gave a crap for the first 10 years the iPhone was on the market. If Nokia/Microsoft did anything good with WP, it was shove the industry on camera technologies and expectations. A BlackMagic $1000 camera makes the iPhone and all other smartphones look like toys, let alone cameras that range from $5K to $100k. Someday the division between smartphone and professional cameras may disappear, but it is a ways off for now.4 points -

Dopamine
hellowalkman reacted to +Raphaël G. for a topic
Hi everyone, I'd like to show you my new music player. It is born out of the ashes of musiX (see this thread). Originally, musiX was created for my personal use. I decided to show it on Neowin, not expecting anything. However, the interest was overwhelming. That motivated me to keep coding and learning. While learning, it however became clear that the foundations of musiX aren't so great. It was hard to add new features without breaking others. So I decided to start fresh and build upon a modular structure. And here is the result, which I have called "Dopamine". Dopamine?! What a strange name... Don't worry, I myself had to get used to it. But it grew on me. Dopamine is actually the name of a chemical in the human body, which plays an important role in defining human behavior. It is a chemical released by the brain when we experience pleasure. And it was discovered that it is also released by our beloved brain when we enjoy music. And there is the link . Requirements Windows 7, 8.x and 10 .NET Framework 4.6.1 or higher Download In the downloads section on my website: http://www.digimezzo.com Open source Dopamine is Open Source Software. You'll find the source code and issue tracker on GitHub: https://github.com/digimezzo/Dopamine Thanks a lot for the interest, and enjoy Dopamine!1 point -

I wish I could use 5GHz more but I think my router sucks and I'm not convinced the upgrade from 2.4GHz warrants buying a new router right now. It really sucks though, because not only is the range pretty bad, the 5GHz just stops working entirely after a few days and I need to restart it. Restarting because 5GHz stops working entirely? Stop thinking your router sucks, and know that it does. I've blanketed my house in 5GHz as well, via various unifi access points. I've had no issues the last 3 years using them. Just upgraded my one center AP to an AC HD model and can pull 700mbit down throughout the house wirelessly. Welp, your comment left me wondering how much I could be missing out so I went ahead and bought a cheap TP-Link dual band router. Early testing seems promising, but we'll see if I regret it.1 point -

Which Samsung SSD - QVO or EVO? (Desktop PC)
Mindovermaster reacted to ThaCrip for a topic
I did mean the 1TB SSD for the 5+ games INCLUDES the general OS and programs also on that same SSD. I still maintain 1TB is ample storage for games, especially as long as a person is not playing many games all at once which I would figure if one installs say roughly 5 games on that 1TB hard drive at roughly 100GB each, or figure 150GB MAX each game(I would say likely less though), that comes out to between 500-750GB of games (there is also a good chance it would be less than 500GB for 5 games to) which should still leave enough space for the OS and general programs with enough free space left to keep things running half way decently without the SSD becoming too full. At least on the limited testing of game loading I did, mainly on Mafia III (2016) which is about 40GB in size, I would not say they are worlds apart as I suspect it mostly boils down to if there are a bunch of little files to load etc. because booting the general OS, the SSD is clearly noticeable over the regular hard drives I used in the past. like loading Mafia III from a 5TB HGST 7200rpm HDD and on my Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD I don't notice any significant difference on that game (without measuring, they seem similar on load times off the top of my head), like to where it's not obvious to me there is a clear gap. maybe there are some games where the difference is clearly noticeable and I am not sure if my SATA II motherboard connection handicaps the SSD since I know the SATA II connection itself is capped to about 300MB/s even though I think your typical modern SATA based SSD is capable of about 500MB/s (maybe a bit more) as I think the SATA III connection's max is about 600MB/s. but from what I gather it's usually loading of a bunch of smaller files is where the SSD really shines over regular hard drives, like booting the OS itself. because from what I have heard there is basically little to no real world difference with a modern SSD on a SATA II or SATA III connection (at least for most uses). so unless one is say transferring larger files between SSD's, that SATA III won't be much, if any, of a advantage over SATA II. I could see some thinking that way and you got a legit point about prices coming down. but personally I would rather save the $100 and put it towards something else (like GPU or CPU, especially since we are talking gaming here) as it's not like 1TB SSD is anywhere near a limited amount of storage space for games. if we were talking 500GB vs 1TB I could see one making a much stronger case against the smaller drive in favor of the bigger one when it comes to games, but when your comparing 1TB vs 2TB, the difference is not nearly as profound. because if games were like 300GB each, then it might be a whole different ball game (to where one could make a much stronger case for opting for the 2TB over the 1TB) but it seems like 150GB is more of the MAX for the vast majority of games right now(?), like say Red Dead Redemption 2, with around 100GB being more of a typical higher side(?). but personally... since 1TB SSD's are roughly $100(maybe $120 or so) and 2TB are floating around $200, I think the 2TB would be more appealing (like worth considering) if it was say $150-ish as it would be a lot easier to justify it at that price especially if one wants to install a boatload of games. but when it's about twice the price of a 1TB, it's not enough of a improvement to justify that much of a $ difference if you ask me. but I think that's why many would say the 500GB or 1TB are the sweet-spot with price/storage space combo as after the 1TB, prices shoot up quite a bit to where the price is no longer that reasonable. sure, 2TB SSD's ain't super expensive, but they are not exactly all that affordable either especially when considering 1TB is ample space for just about anything one needs to load up quickly and one could put that $100 towards a better GPU etc. but I guess a lot of this boils down to whether one favors efficiency when it comes to spending ones $ on computer hardware or if they are that type to where as long as it's not a insane amount of money they tend to go for more than what's generally needed and spend the extra $ without much concern.1 point -

I love tech, but you will never get me to put one of these devices in my home. Sure, if all you're doing is running one game. But if you want to run multiple games at high frame rate simultaneously, do streaming (twitch, Netflix), etc., Ryzen will kill. I have one monitor for Netflix/HBO, I have another for browsing/discord/teams, and I switch between games on another. Sounds like a normal PC workload 🤣 you would be surprised how many people run this way now. gone are the days of having a PC to record while the other PC is the gaming rig. machines are so strong now that you can do multiple things without sacrifice. no one needs to run a game at 200 fps. we don't live in benchmarks. According to AMD Fan girls 9900k is not capable doing of what you described, seriously... How much is that 9900K compared to comparable Ryzen? Not to mention needing new socket each iteration with Intel or 4 gens with Ryzen in some cases. I like Intel, and still have a 4790 as older machine. They're lacking other areas, also. At least this will hopefully bring some price equalization to the market, but I switched to Ryzen 2600 with new machine. Paid $120 for It. Paid about $300 for new CPU/mobo/RAM. And I can still upgrade processor if I want a year or two from now. The only comparable cpu amd has to the 9900k (or 9900ks) is the 3900x or 3950x and both are more expensive then the two intel cpus. The 3700x is also comparable (even bests the 9900k in a lot of areas) but significantly cheaper. The 3900x is within a few bucks of the 9900k.1 point -
