  1. LOL ... at you trying to justify that Mr. Nash sentencing was proportionate for a "seemingly innocuous, victimless nature of his crime" where "it is highly probable that the Newton County Jail’s booking procedure was not followed" Dude was sentenced to twelve years because, apparently, the jail failed to do THEIR job. He wasn't using the phone to "commit other crimes; organize hits, trade contraband in and out of prison jail, arrange escapes"

I could care less. There will always be someone who complains about something. How the notch looks is probably the least important part of a phone. “Couldn’t”

  6. Nobody's glad Android won, we're sad that Microsoft didn't do better. Competition is good for everyone, even if you are an Android or iOS user. Let's not make Microsoft's failure this dumb idea that we were all against them; many people were tired of getting burned, tired of waiting for updates or being last in line for Microsoft's own software updates when they prioritized iOS > Android > WP in that order. They were responsible in many ways for their own undoing.

  8. No kidding Doc ... in case you didn't read ... Mr. Nash "did not appeal the jury’s verdict; he challenged only the twelve year sentence he received." Do you really believe that 12 years and a felony conviction is reasonable? Honestly.

  10. Well there's only native Apple Apps so you'll have things like Safari, Apple Maps and so on. They follow the same permission structure as other apps so will ask for location permissions and so on. You can also "delete" them though in fairness they are baked into the OS so you don't save space, just removes the icon mostly. The biggest difference though is that there's no third party software ever loaded onto an iPhone, you won't buy one from a carrier and have some of their junk loaded on it. Or like on Android an OEM does a deal with some third party and bakes their software in. Not saying there isn't more Apple could do. I'd love to be able to change the default apps which they still don't allow but in terms of privacy, it's far better than Android still.

  15. Hey there, Crazy looking at this forum and seeing some familiar names from nearly 20 years ago. Hope everyone is well. I've been on OSX for years, but have had enough of Apple slowly turning it into iOS and nerfing Catalina for audio production. Two questions: 1) How does one theme Windows 10? It is the same method from XP? 2) Do themes work with Windows 10 LTSC? That'll be the chosen OS as to avoid bloatware and whatnot. I've recently created a theme for Reaper (music DAW), which you can see in full detail here. I'm tempted to create a W10 theme that matches it, or at least, make W10 more bearable to look at. Happy 2020 :¬)

HMD is Finnish; its manufacturing partner FIH (foxconn) is Taiwanese. Nokia didn't do anything. Microsoft sold its mobile phone division (which it had bought from nokia) to HMD, and the factories to FIH.

I'm wondering about this too. I recently built a rig with a 9900ks in it and even then I would still consider AMD. The deciding factor was that I could actually get the 9900ks where the 3900x was sold out everywhere I looked. AMD has some extremely appealing chips right now, there's no reason to outright dismiss them. You're forgiven. 😄

The 2080 Ti is slightly better, but it isn't an RTX variant, keep that in mind. I went with KFA2 RTX 2070 SUPER which has great reviews, but it doesn't appear to be available in the US. Just avoid Gigabyte cards, because the recent RTX SUPER variants have poor build quality and bad reviews, I did more extensive searching with a particular Gigabyte model (via EAN) back when I was looking but I can't seem to find the thread on Reddit with the tens of examples of why not to go with Gigabyte, it had to do with the poor triple fans implementation.

They were responsible in many ways for their own undoing. I'm with you, what's done is done and I think the only way to go forward now is if someone with the needed backend services, like a MS or Amazon, could rally enough support to make an official 3rd party app store that can get the support of a good number of phone makers to. That way you could get more pure AOSP versions out without all the Google parts. Amazon has a half step going though their fire phone went down in flames heh. MS is going into it now with the Surface Duo, dual screen and folding screens is a good place to start but they're "working" with Google so I expect all the usual Google bloat to be there to. Maybe a future version could be made with less of it though.

  27. Google to support Chrome on Windows 7 until at least mid-2021

Why? Windows 10 as a service is supposedly going to be the last OS developed from the ground up, isn't it? So, what you going to use in 11 years when it's supposedly to old? You do realize that Windows 10 is built off of a kernel that originated in the 90s, right? 11 years from now Windows 10 (if they haven’t chopped off the 10 part by then) will be just as evolved.
    1 point
  28. Of course. Windows 10 is a complete failure. What garbage Store is that it fails at very basic, to choose in what folder you want to install app and the amount of file/folder/registry garbage UWP creates is staggering, compared to Steam games where it keeps everything under on folder, with optional shortcuts and next to no registry keys.

  29. Not only do OEMs install apps, but so do the phone carriers and some can not be uninstalled, just disabled. Wouldn't it be nice to have a clean, stock version of Android

  38. They missed the mark completely with the store. Should be more like a package manager. No one uses 'apps' in Windows.
    1 point
  39. The store should be a place to find software that works for your device. It helps too that Microsoft has checked it for security. Whether it's UWP or what ever shouldn't matter, first you need to get stuff in the store and worry about that later. The real issue is they aren't hosting the apps we want. Adobe (I wish they used the store and auto updates....so annoying)? Office? Microsoft Teams? Microsoft Planner? Microsoft SharePoint? Handbrake? Visual studio? SourceTree? browsers? Joinme or Zoom or WebX? Google Apps? etc. The issue has nothing to do with desktop users not using apps, we use lots of apps. It's those apps not existing in the store. The process can be debated of how to get those apps in the store, but if you went to Zoom's website and clicked download and it opened the store and started installing and if that happened for pretty much every where you downloaded software....you'd use the store. And if the search in the store was half decent, you'd probably stop going to the web to look for software, and check the store first. But Microsoft doesn't even do this for their own apps. Right now if I buy Office 365 from the store, it sends me to a browsers to download it. That's got to be a joke! If the store dies, it's because the sections of Microsoft that aren't Windows won't support it.

  40. They should kill it altogether. A platform that doesn't allow you to backup your stuff and force you to re-download everything at any misplaced backup restore, doesn't deserve to live.

  43. My opinion is that Microsoft has to sell them by brute force. Those devices did turn a lot of heads, but not many will translate to actual sales even with positive reviews. Give potential customers a sweet deal with bundled offers and it may sell fine.

  47. Chrome didn't have all the bells and whistles when IT first released. Things are always being developed and improved upon. Would you rather them hold back the release for years or improve it with each release? The browser is plenty polished for general every day use. The missing features will quickly follow behind so it's nothing to throw a fit about like a lot of people in these comments seem to think ...
