For reading, there is nothing like e-ink. Not even the comparision of mobile phone's LCD screen. Unless you expected color and/ or reading like it was a webpage or a huge monitor, eink is like reading a book. Very different technologies. E-ink is designed to avoid eye strain, at least reduce it by a large margin. I don't have that many PDF on my machine, most were bought from Kindle store.3 points -

Yes indeed: 3.0 is the multi platform rewrite. Supported on Windows and Linux. Theoretically also on Mac. Although someone else would have to build and test it (as I don't own a Mac). I'm interested too. I haven't done all the research yet. But seeing as web technologies have a lot of multi-media capabilities, I see a promising future for Dopamine. With version 2.0 out of the way, development on 3.0 should get a boost. Edit: Dopamine code and issues were moved to https://github.com/digimezzo/dopamine-windows This is the Dopamine 3.0 GitHub: https://github.com/digimezzo/dopamine For all feature requests, please log an issue over there. I don't always guess right how people like to listen to their music. So if anyone has suggestions, don't hesitate to create issues via GitHub.2 points

Windows 10 Mobile is dead ... again
alex_d2w and one other reacted to Liberi_Fatali for a topic
Still think they should have focused on "Windows Phone 7" or at least never released 7 and jumped straight to 8. you prefer windows phone 7? No, tbh I never used anything past 6.5. The issue is they recreated windows mobile/WinCE for Windows Phone 7, so people developed apps based on that, adapting with the new interface and such, then microsoft dropped the whole platform, recreating WP8 off of WinNT instead of WinCE.2 points -

+Warwagon and one other reacted to zikalify for a topic
it's more for the age of the hardware on some windows 7 machines; some are up to a decade old as mentioned and may not support some of the nicer or required feature sets in 10 If your hardware is that old then sure, I'd be looking to change the whole system. But at the same time there seem to be plenty of mentions of Windows 10 running well, if not better, on limited hardware compared to Windows 7. I was just thinking out loud. At the end of the day I don't mind what the reasoning is for the suggestion, so long as people finally get off their butts and move to something better...or at least, more secure. Still no excuse to throw out old computers! Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon runs decently on my Thinkpad X61s (although it gets a bit hot, I'm not sure if the fan is doing its job properly!), and my Sony Vaio from around 2006/2007. Granted they're a bit slow by today's standards but not bad for some light tasks; I wrote a fair few articles for Neowin on the Thinkpad in 20172 points -

No software is ever secured. After all as Windows 10 gets more of market share it will be more prone to security problems than Windows 7 because it will be a primary target of attacks. I just wonder how long will take for 500 million of people running Windows 7 to upgrade to something else. Microsoft might just lose those 500 million people to Linux and Mac OS.1 point -

adrynalyne reacted to forster for a topic
Yeah its always the issue, I know if I want to use my Dell laptop full time Im going to have to switch out the wifi card inside it, which I dont really want to do. Intel-wise is the safest, and use a Gigabyte board. The Hackintosh Reddit and tonymacx86.com are excellent resources. I'm sorely tempted to build a 9900k Hackintosh, but I really can't even use both the full-tower systems I have at once right now, never mind a totally overkill 'build on a whim' third machine just because I want to.1 point -

I hate them as well - and I'm glad that they are no longer required for telephony - AND that you can now purchase your own telephony modem. (I'm also a Comcast customer, and have been for two decades.) On the telephony side, my recommendation is the Motorola MT7711 - the only 24x8 DOCSIS 3.1 telephony cable modem that is both Comcast-approved AND customer-purchaseable (https://www.amazon.com/MOTOROLA-MT7711-Gigabit-Comcast-Internet/dp/B07GX2ZQXG/). Don't need telephony support? There's the ARRIS SurfBoard SB8200 (https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-Approved-SB8200-Frustration/). The latter has the same issue that all the DOCSIS 3.x ARRIS Surfboards have had - excessively bright blue LED lights on their fronts. (I call them "Blue Thunder" - as in the movie of the same name.) More importantly, neither has the Intel Puma6 cable modem chipset that has had issues in cable modem deployments; both instead use Broadcom chipsets. (As hated as Broadcom is, their chipsets get the job done when they need to,)1 point -

Wait... this article telling people if they have windows 7 and want windows 10 they have to buy it? Microsoft is still offering Windows 10 for free. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Just go here and if you want windows 10 download and install it. You can upgrade over Windows 7 or you can create an iso and make a bootable dvd / usb drive and clean install using your existing windows 7 key. Typically if your system has a core i3 / core i5 it should run windows fine. I would recommend you have a minimum of 4gb of ram.1 point -
