  1. People who want a browser that syncs to their Microsoft account instead of a Google account?

  2. I wonder why they don't just make a setting to display or remove the update notification? I don't care for the notification myself, but I can understand others wanting to know.

No, Safari is a way better browser 😁. *Sarcastically speaking*

  4. Not a fan of this decision. It already has the ability to ask you if you want to block notifications if it notices you swipe them away a lot, should have just stuck with that.

No software is ever secured. After all as Windows 10 gets more of market share it will be more prone to security problems than Windows 7 because it will be a primary target of attacks. I just wonder how long will take for 500 million of people running Windows 7 to upgrade to something else. Microsoft might just lose those 500 million people to Linux and Mac OS. Hahahahahahahahahaha nope

because people can't let go and are afraid of change (e.g. same thing happened with windows XP, and to a lesser extent, win9x)

Not sure if sarcasm. I only remember your constructive "They will sell (insert low number here)" comments. Unless it deals with Apple, you can be reasonably sure he is being disingenuous.

  17. Hehe "most users swipe away" ... I bet actually most users don't touch the notification one way or the other and just leave it sitting there forever. Based on phones I've seen with long lists of icons along the top that I could never live with myself! But they seem to...

  18. Some people like the extra info, so I agree that it should at least be a option in the play store app, either on or off. You might like to know if you already have the newest version of a app, maybe you read about it online that day for example. Without a notification telling you it's been updated say yesterday, you'd have to check in the play store app, or check said app itself. Likewise maybe you don't want to upgrade to the newest version of a app, for whatever reason. I also wish you could tell the system to stop updates for specific apps.

  21. Windows 7 is no longer supported beginning today

Cause it works good. While I appreciate the mentality of, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" it doesn't really apply in this situation. As of today (or a week from now given patch Tuesday) the OS is officially broke, or at least it will start breaking down. I get the love for Windows 7, but run it in a VM if you need compatibility for applications, and make sure that the VM is away from the Internet. We're basically looking at an IT case of the anti-vaxxers. You might want to take the risk by not moving on, but you are potentially threatening other people by not doing so. That's my take on it, anyway.

I quite liked Windows XP and used it for years, Windows 7 just felt like a breath of fresh air and I dont think it was ever really surpassed by Windows 8 and 8.1.

  25. What about all the "enhanced security" that has been constantly touted as a big reason to abandon Windows-7 and move to WIndows-10?? It's "mitigation" and "prevention", not the cure (i.e. 100% perfect code, which isn't possible). Same reason why we have locks on doors, better locks on doors, and "secure locks for Fort Knox" locks on doors which can all be backed up by other security to ensure that people don't even get near the lock in the first place. Don’t try to explain it. He doesn’t have the ability to comprehend it.

  26. What about all the "enhanced security" that has been constantly touted as a big reason to abandon Windows-7 and move to WIndows-10?? Every OS gets security patches to fix security issues. Every one. Your comment is pointless anyway, this also affects Windows 7.

  31. Windows Terminal v0.8 adds search feature, retro effects, and more

Yes. Sort of. Microsoft has adopted a lot from both Oh My Posh and Powerline. The font is called Cascadia. There is also limited theming ability for Windows Terminal. There is even a utility called ColorTool.exe on the same repo. Did they add those glyphs to cascadia? I only ask because I had to compile them into it. That’s damn nice if they did. Glyphs are part of "Cascadia Code PL", in which "PL" stands for powerlines. So, hopefully, the screenshots are genuine. Hopefully...

  32. I have been using Edge Chromium over Google Chrome for a while now on PC/Windows and on my Mac's for cross-platform purposes. I much prefer it over Chrome as it's not the same battery and memory hog like Chrome. But it's baffling to me that Microsoft is releasing Edge Chromium without essential features such as synchronisation of history, tabs, extensions and extension settings. It feels rather half-baked without these features which we have come to expect from other Chromium browsers such as Google Chrome. I normally use Apple Safari on my Mac's as it's so much more efficient in-terms of system resources and battery. But sometimes I simply need better synchronisation between my browser on PC/Windows and Mac and then I have to use something else. I replaced Chrome with Edge Chromium as it's better on resources and battery, but I had really hoped and was really expecting that the synchronisation features would actually be fully implemented before it's official release. Seems really stupid to me that Microsoft decide to fully release it before expected functionality is fully implemented. They don't even offer a release schedule saying when these features are to be expected. They are still nowhere to be seen in either the BETA, Developer or Canary Channel so it doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. What's even more funny is adding Edge Chromium Stable on my Windows Server 2019 installation. You cannot login with your Microsoft Account on Windows Servers as the required services for communicating with private Microsoft Accounts doesn't exists on Windows Server. It does let you login with a Office 365 / Azure account, but the browser does not support any sort of synchronisation using Office 365 / Azure accounts. Like come on now, what are you doing Microsoft? Are you for real? Why do you claim it's supported on Windows Server when stuff like this doesn't work?

  34. One guy I saw on Reddit made a good point about the pop-up front facing cameras... that even though they're not the greatest thing in the world, he found it very interesting how many times that camera came up. It's the equivalent of the little light on your laptop telling you when the webcam is on; it's actually kind of useful, especially if it's open when it shouldn't be. Just some food for thought. That is a good point. I would be so ###### off if the camera kept popping up when I didn't asked it to. Kind of like when your PC randomly wakes up in the middle of the night for no reason. EDIT: apparently the p word used to describe going number 1 is considered bad language? okay...

  38. Samsung Galaxy S20+ shown off in hands on video, more specs reported

Hopefully! I always hated the curved edges of my old Lumia 925 for being hard to hold, and thought the edges of a curved screen would result in lots of unintentional screen touches. Then I got a P30 Pro, and I discovered I was right. I had to get a case, because it is nearly impossible to hold when lying down without constantly hitting the glass. In contrast, the flat sides on my Lumia 950XL were so easy to hold.

I can still remember loading the beta/release candidate in VirtualBox and trying cutting-edge new features like Aero Snap and the new thumbnail previews, and more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_7. One of the most significant releases of Windows.

have fun slowly becoming less and less secure on that machine as the paid extended support is only offered to businesses I believe. It'll probably be like the XP one and people will find a workaround to get the patches too

  42. That's not really how programming, coding, patching works. Currently, right now there HUGE, MAJOR security flaws in all software. Patching them, might break something simple, like logging in. Companies can't afford that. So they keep it quiet until a work around is found that only breaks something else non critical. It's a vicious cycle that will never stop because programming and coding aren't perfect.

I still remember the day of Dec. 31st 2008, when I managed to grab a leaked copy of Windows 7 Beta @ Build 7000; I swapped Vista for 7, I never went back! It was faster, snappier, and more feature-complete than its predecessor! It brings me back the first time trying a 64-bit build on 7053, and finally the RC @ 7100; remember the leaked pre-RTM build on 7263, and finally the glorious 7600 RTMed on July 22nd 2009! It's been one of the best MS OSes of all time. It's been a fun ride, amigo!

I wouldn’t dare leave Windows 7 for that atrocity named Windows 10. I’ve already wisely, and happily, made other plans. If an LTSC version is legally made available for regular consumers, then maybe.
