Microsoft is apparently canceling its 95% revenue share program [Update]
Brony and 6 others reacted to LunarShadow for a topic
Not even this was enticing enough lol. With the news of the demise of the windows store, and now this, it’ll be a matter of time before the store will be scrapped altogether. It’s a shame that windows 10 is supposedly the “last” version of windows (and what a crappy way to go out on), and with the store soon to be gone, what good are those ugly metro tiles? Poor planning and desperation are what caused these problems that plague windows 10.7 points -

My personal experience is that for sound equipment, I'd always want to compare with another brand so visiting a Bose (or another companies) store wouldn't make sense. I'd always visit a department store or something similar to try before I'd buy. Plus it's way cheaper not to buy from Bose directly4 points -

Rubbish. Their consumer headphones have been amazing, proving invaluable to those of us who fly or who just want to drown out the office/background noise. Their latest 2019 over-ear headphones look a little overpriced compared to the competition now and there looks to have been a drop in quality, but the QC35's are legendary. As are all their QC noise-cancelling products.3 points -

While I'm still skeptical on how much human activity actually contributes to climate change vs nature and the universe running its course, companies like Microsoft voluntarily committing to changes like this is the way to go. It's SO much better than government overreach mandating such actions.2 points -

No highs, no lows, must be bose. Their entry level stuff is okay, but their higher end models are certainly not worth the price, and use a lot of the same components the entry range has. Huge profit margins, and extremely mediocre with higher tier options and what you get for that price. As for retail, their sales reps are worse than a used car lot. High pressure, snake oil tactics.. any one who has experience in buying speakers more than a few times can tell you the same thing and for those simple facts, people avoid retail Bose stores or go third party/online.2 points -

It doesn't make sense for each brand to have their own store. When people go shopping they like to look at a wide variety of things and compare, and pick up a few things at once instead of going to many stores for each item. I guess if they're part of a mall it might make sense. I haven't come across one of their stores (or maybe I didn't notice it) so I don't know how they're organized.2 points -

You can change the smooth scrolling by going to edge:flags and searching for smooth scrolling. Thanks for the info but I'll stick with firefox for now. I shouldn't have to fiddle with flags to change basic features. If you have a Logitech mouse, Setpoint or GHub or Logitech Gaming software (yes there really are 3 different softwares for their mice and keyboards) can override smooth scrolling across the whole OS and apps.2 points -

Not surprised if they do shut down the store. I mean just look at games for the store, they are poorly optimized. And there is not enough app to make up for it. I don't think they'd want to ###### off the fan base anymore by delaying just for that reason. Would make more sense to release when ready and do a GOTY edition on next gen. edit: heck with the way next gen is working the game could probably just be cross compatible out of the gate and just need a patch if anything to enable the next gen features/quality. much easier to do next gen compatibility now that architecture isn't changing :)1 point -
New HR Policy
Matthew S. reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
Dear Employee: As a result of the reduced budget, we are forced to cut down on our number of personnel. Under this plan, older employees will be asked to take early retirement, thus permitting the retention of younger people who represent our future. Therefore, a program to phase out older personnel by the end of the current fiscal year, via retirement, will be placed into effect immediately. This program will be known as SLAP (Sever Late-Aged Personnel). Employees who are SLAPPED will be allowed to look for jobs outside the company. SLAPPED employees can request a review of their employment records before actual retirement takes place. This review phase is called SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers). All workers who have been SLAPPED and SCREWED may file an appeal with upper management. This appeal is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination). Under the terms of the new policy, an employee may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but maybe SHAFTED as many times as the company deems appropriate. If an employee follows the above procedure, he/she will be entitled to get: HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel's Early Severance) or CLAP (Combined Lump sum Assistance Payment). As HERPES and CLAP are considered benefit plans, any employee who has received these will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the company. The management wishes to assure the younger employees who remain on board that the company will continue its policy of training employees through our ###### (Special High-Intensity Training). We take pride in the amount of ###### our employees receive. We have given our employees more ###### than any company in this area. If any employee feels that they do not receive enough ###### on the job, see your immediate supervisor. Your supervisor is specially trained to make sure that you receive all the ###### that you can stand. And, once again, thanks for all your years of service with us.1 point -
Heart Attack
+hedleigh reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
A man suffered a serious heart attack while shopping in a store. The store clerk called 911 when they saw him collapse to the floor. The paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he had emergency open heart bypass surgery. He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at the Catholic Hospital. A nun was seated next to his bed holding a clipboard loaded with several forms, and a pen. She asked him how he was going to pay for his treatment. "Do you have health insurance?" she asked. He replied in a raspy voice, "No health insurance." The nun asked, "Do you have money in the bank?" He replied, "No money in the bank." Do you have a relative who could help you with the payments?" asked the irritated nun. He said, "I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun." The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God."1 point -

Comcast's insisting on an upgrade.
xrobwx71 reacted to goretsky for a topic
Hello, The ARRIS Touchstone TG862G is a residential broadband gateway and router with an integrated 802.11n wireless access point (2.4GHz only, though) as well as telephony adapter (for two separate phone lines) and four-port Ethernet (10/100/1GbE) switch. This particular model is branded by ARRIS for Xfinity (aka Comcast) and was, as best as I can tell, released in 2015, so it is now about five (5) years old, and is compliant with the DOCSIS 3.0 standard. My best guess is that Comcast must be upgrading the CMTS (cable modem termination system) at their end (aka the "head-end") that your cable modem connects to from DOCSIS 3.0 to DOCSIS 3.1, and is requesting all DOCSIS 3.0 users to upgrade to a modem compliant with the newer standard. The reason for this upgrade is that the technology used in 3.1 to transfer data makes more efficient use of the channels/spectrum on the wire, and having to support the older 3.0 device slows down the throughput of their cable network. Upgrading to a newer modem allows them to provide service to more users at higher speeds, as they no longer have to support the older means of communicating performed by your 3.0 modem. At least, that's my basic understanding of how things work. So, yes, there is a legitimate reason for your cable ISP to ask you to upgrade your modem. The main thing I would suggest is that you make darn sure everything works before the cable technician leaves, including Wi-Fi access as well as your telephone lines. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky1 point -

A young blonde fears that her boyfriend is seeing another girl
Matthew S. reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
A young blonde fears that her boyfriend is seeing another girl... One day, the girl is visiting her boyfriend's apartment for lunch and stumbles across another woman's discarded garments on his bedroom floor. After sitting coolly through the meal, avoiding eye contact, she quietly excuses herself without explanation. She is incredibly hurt, and on her way home finds herself in a local gun shop, purchasing a handgun. The next day she awakens with renewed vengeance for her lover's betrayal. She dresses and immediately heads straight to his apartment, gun tucked in the back of her pants as a fail-safe in case things get ugly. Not bothering to knock, she bursts into her boyfriend's apartment to find him and a brunette cuddled up on the couch. As the reality sinks in, the blonde is overcome with complete despair and rage.1 point -

It's hard to say, if they do get Android app support, this could work outside of China, more so if Huawei allow phone companies to adopts any standard apps they want on those phones, This is what Google was worried about, not short term but they must know how over the next 10 years this can gain market share, more so because there is a lot of markets around the world that don't trust Google or the US and want more independence on what can be done on phones.1 point
